Full of rich lines, “Watagua Drawdown” by Don Johnson is a book I keep picking up every few months. I think the images of the sunken city, Old Butler, below a TVA lake is something familiar to many in the Tennessee Valley, and seeing the flooded silos and old foundations depicted in verse is really powerful. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in southern poets who deserve a second reading. I added his poem “Grabbling” here. First Edition, rare hardback with Very Good+ condition jacket. One foot in front of the other, that's all it takes! I set out for a stroll and it turned into a beautiful hike alongside the Watagua River. This was pure early morning beauty, natural, unspoiled and just waiting to be seen and enjoyed.
