Full of rich lines, “Watagua Drawdown” by Don Johnson is a book I keep picking up every few months. I think the images of the sunken city, Old Butler, below a TVA lake is something familiar to many in the Tennessee Valley, and seeing the flooded silos and old foundations depicted in verse is really powerful. A CNN team and I took a group of journalists from around the world to east Tennessee to experience a unique piece of Americana.
What began as a day filled with apprehensiveness and the awkwardness of meeting new people, some who spoke little English. Turned out to be a day filled with excitement and bonding.
We went "catfish grabbling" or "catfish noodling". The sport where you allow a huge catfish to chomp down on your hand so that you can pull it out of the murky water has many names. It's considered an adrenaline rush for many.
