I dunno if it's just nostalgia speaking, but does anyone feel like YouTube peaked in the early 2010's?

It was when ads weren't so annoying they singlehandedly broke me out of an addictive cycle. It wasn't when every video was so hideously overproduced that you couldn't see their person behind them It was when titles were written In Title Case like all good titles should.

Then CoVID happened, and suddenly I'm seeing faces everywhere on thumbnails, I'm being advertised to constantly as though I've the money or inclination to buy into any of those schemes, and everyone I grew up watching changed to be so different that they may as well be strangers now.

Like, why does every (say) Minecraft video need such a high scale? Why can't you do something other than challenges? Where are those insanely nerdy videos about spawn mechanics? I know they exist, but why are they so hard to find?

Like, everything feels so disingenuous now. It seems like everyone is chasing some sort of elusive goal set by Youtubers playing an entirely different game to them. What happened?

I know this is a ballsy thing to fucking say but mark my fucking words Saltburn will go down in queer cinematic history just like But I'm a Cheerleader, Rocky Horror Picture Show and hell even Jawbreakers. It is so beautiful and so good and so descriptive and oh my fucking god the way that every move every minute and every second is accounted for. It's got 2 of my favorite hyper fixations (sex and death) and the way that it is so overtly homoerotic and the way that sexual tense is skilled fully injected into almost every interaction. The way that the movie portrays Oliver as a genius and a master manipulator and also as a stupid boy who fell in love with a stupid boy and was able to bullshit his way into a plan that luckily worked out. He is smart but he's quick (as his name suggests) and messy and rushes through not being able to stop mental sucking his own (and like every other characters) dick. If only we could have heard his thoughts, if only this was a book. I want to know more; I want more of the story and its done and I wish a god could grant me the privilege to see it again with fresh eyes. All of them. Rocky Horror Picture Show, But I'm A Cheerleader, Jennifer's Body, Jawbreaker, Eternal Summer, A Portrait of a Lady on Fire and of course Saltburn. I have said it before and I will say it again, this is the Year of the Queer for me so buckle the fuck up bitches.
