What have you written lately? . . . I am so frustrated with the state of the world right now. When's the last time that you looked in someone's eyes when they were discussing race, religion, sexuality, or other important social topics? . . . The last time that I looked someone in the eye while discussing race, religion, sexuality, or other important social topics was this morning. I was retelling a story that one of my graduate buddies had posted on her Facebook page in relation to last nights curfew. As I read it, and as a retold the story, I was filled with so much anger. I looked my husband in the eye and told him that this is why we have movements like Black Lives Matter. . . . I'm going to be honest. I am not an activist, but it kills me that the world is going through so much pain right now. So, my contribution to the movement is this: fun videos and content that focus on writing related things. It's important to talk about the culture. But it's also important to be able to express our culture and thoughts through writing. With all that's going on right now, I want to bring a bit of light into the world. So, get on YouTube and click on my Watch Me Wednesday post about becoming a writer. What's the most awkward situation that you've seen at a family event? . . . I think that one of the most recent awkward situations at a family event was when my sister showed up to my rehearsal dinner (you know, the dinner you have before the wedding day) with a man that we'd only met -- maybe -- once. I had been looking for her since the start of the event, but she was nowhere to be found. It turned out that she had been getting her nails done -- and didn't invite me, the bride, who hadn't had a chance to get pampered due to other circumstances. I remember being upset that she didn't invite me. Then she spent the rest of the night drinking and hanging out with said partner. Needless to say, we had an argument in the middle of the night. I don't think that anyone was watching, but if they had been, I'm sure they would have called it awkward. . . . Anyways, don't get me wrong, I love my sister. But in that moment I wanted nothing more than to disown her. I still get upset thinking about it today, so I just don't. Anyways, awkward family situations are going to crop up. Whether it's an argument at a wedding or a sly comment between you and a sibling, the important thing is to not let it get to you. And remember that you matter, regardless of what anyone else thinks. . . . What does being a mother feel like? . . . I wanted to post this last Wednesday in an effort to boost up Mother's Day, but alas, my plans did not work out.
