queer muslim fleamont and euphemia who got into a lavender-esque marriage knowing that they believed too much to ever go againt their religion, but at the same time needed a companion to not only satisfy their family but to be undrrstood.
james who opposes the idea of religion as a whole and effie and monty never try to force them into it because they want them to live how they want and not force their life choices on them.
when james starts expiramenting with gender, effie finds herself looking and often staring at james, wishing that she'd had the same saftey net, that she could challenge the ideas and her beliefs as easily as james had.
when james comes out to them, they're scared, but they reassure them with tears in their eyes, so endlessly proud of themselves for raising them with confidence and for letting themselves be safe parents.
when james brings regulus home, they treat regulus with the kindness he dserves and tell them both that they're proud of them both. and then at night they both lay awake with tears streaming down their face as they ache fpr a life that has always felt so close yet so far away.
