Metroid Prime: Crashed Ship Frigate Orpheon - Cool Danch
[Crashed Ship Frigate Orpheon]
from the GameGrooves album Wave Beam: A Synthwave Tribute to Metroid Prime. more by Cool Danch here
Chibi Sammy Art!
The wave beam had such a satisfying sound effect in the older games. I always spammed it. 😂😅
We get hopelessly confused but quickly regain our footing and acquire the next upgrade!
"Whoops! You lost Hammer Kirby. And here’s a post you have to hit with a hammer. Better back-track and beat Bonkers again and get a new Hammer and travel all the way back to this post WITHOUT getting hit!" Um, are you forgetting that Kirby's Dreamland 2-3 and Kirby's Adventure also do this? Only difference is you have level select instead of a connected map.
I didn’t forget at all, but in the games you’re describing, Hammer Kirby isn’t essential to the progression of the game. If, in, say, Kirby’s Adventure you lose Hammer Kirby, it’s cool, because there’s probably going to be another enemy on the next screen with a different power. Just get Sword Kirby or whatever and keep going.
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror specifically ties powers to progression, as in: the only way to advance is to light the fuse on this cannon, but the only way to get Fire Kirby is to backtrack to 6 rooms away and then hike back to the canon while holding the fire ability.
Except it’s way too easy to drop an ability, and way too easy to get lost, turning the game in to a nightmare.
In Kirby’s Adventure, if you can’t light the fuse on a cannon, you miss out on some extra health, a short cut or a 1up. If you can’t light the fuse on a cannon in Amazing Mirror, then there’s a good chance that you’re stuck and can’t get to the next area at all.
At least, that’s my memory of it.
Just to explain the situation a third way, imagine playing Metroid where you’re given the Wave Beam and you drop it the moment Samus takes damage, forcing you to backtrack and re-acquire it every time. That’s Amazing Mirror.
