I was asked to a piece featuring Batgirl by a friend and long time supporter of my work. I was racking my brain trying to get a unique angle on the piece. I always wanted to draw Man-Bat. The idea of his arm around her, almost like he's trying to protect her was my hook. She has an expression of defiance, like she doesn't need him. KONG vs PTERODACTYL - A MASSIVE commission (22"x30"), mostly drawn in a hotel room in San Diego at last year's Comic-Khan. I was really excited about this piece, but drawing anything at that size with pen and ink can be problematic more times than not. It was drawn on the fly and I made decisions based on what "felt right" at the time. I like working that way, but it can be nerve wracking when you're trying to get something finished. At the last minute, I felt the need to "blow out" Fay and draw her in a more abstract way. @richmondtattooconvention is coming up later this week and I’ll be coming out to do some live painting for charity.
