Icons of the National Road, Part 1. The National Road was the first improved highway funded and constructed by the federal government. Built between 1811 and 1837 along the former path of the Braddock Road, it became the key transportation route from the eastern seaboard to the western settlements for thousands of settlers in search of land, prosperity, and improved lives. Today, US Route 40 parallels the original route of the National Road over the Allegheny Mountains and Plateau from Cumberland, Maryland to Wheeling, West Virginia. A number of landmark buildings from the heyday of the road yet stand, including several wayside inns and taverns that catered to the traveling throngs. One of them - the Stone House Restaurant and Country Inn in Farmington, Pennsylvania - was opened in 1822 as the Fayette Springs Hotel and continues to operate to this day.

Here’s to re reading a well loved much pined after series of books that honestly wound my soul because I dearly, very very dearly, love Kvothe. And it is because of this I have many issues with Denna or whatever she’s calling herself these days

I’m not yet finished wise man’s fear and I’m at the point where Kvothe is back at the University after his travels and his dalliances with Felurian, yes yes Kvothe is a sex god now and even he doesn’t know how old he is anymore, join the club babe. For better or worse, he’s a 17-18-19 year old guy who from the sound of things, is fucking amazing in bed and has a sizeable ego for obvious reasons (I want a Kvothe but that’s beside the point) so yeah he’s sleeping around (keep in mind he just spent like 2-3 months in Ademre, casual sex in the grass anyone?) and Denna has the fucking audacity, the nERVE to get pissy that Kvothe has been spending time with women while she hasn’t even been in the fucking city. My idiot darling Kvothe is endlessly fawning over this chick and has had to watch her with cOuntless men over the years (literally since they met) and I will hell anywhere, loudly, that he deserves better than this flighty, cruel (at least they admit this in the book but aARGH) girl who I could maybe accept more if she had any backstory (yes I understand it’s Kvothe’s story) but I swear to god I grit my teeth so hard whenever she’s there.

She annoys me sO hard and I just want my Kvothe to be happy and strong and remember who he is and omg I’m so scared he’s not going to be ok in the next book because it’s a self proclaimed tragedy pls pls I will cry so hard just let my boy be ok, like not even happy, just oK because he’s noT and innkeeper he’s KVOTHE ok I have feelings about this book thank you and goodnight
