ok, so, bear with me because i don’t actually watch season eight - i haven’t watched since s5.
however, upon coming across the teaser for next weeks episode. i have some theories about it.
nathan seems to be thrown into the deep end this week as he’s being portrayed as dishonest - owing the fact that three years prior to his assigned post to hope valley he was stationed in fort clay; where it’s well known to valley residents that fort clay was jack thornton’s last assignment before his tragic death.
fans will recall that when nathan meets elizabeth thornton for the first time he says that he’d never served with jack but knows of his reputation as an excellent mountie; to which elizabeth responds as him being an “excellent man”.
the fact that nathan says this, but never states where his last posting was, is fickle because i think it could prove he’s been lying.
nathan probably took the job at hope valley because he may owe jack a life debt. (jack died as a result of a landslide; pushing two mounties out of the way as a result of his own life) so maybe nathan is repaying jacks sacrifice. nathan probably owed jack his life- and because he can’t repay him - he’s probably repaying him on behalf of elizabeth.
i don’t know why nathan was so blasé about his past before hope valley and because of nathan’s proclaim of love to elizabeth this might prove difficult for him to explain himself.
however, if it turns out that nathan isn’t one of those mounties jack saved, he still could hold valuable information that might help e cope and gain peace. he might know jacks last words
do you agree? let me know.
if you have alternate theories, add them on - i’d love to know.
