A Boy

There was a young boy. We saw him taken by the men with the swords and the armor. He was a child of 15. Nearly a man, but not quite. His freedom snatched from him before he could truly learn to love it. He was beaten and abused. Forced to serve them as they fought in battle and drank themselves into a stupor each night in celebration of their cruelties.

But they did not know that this boy had a heart blessed by the forest. His soul rose within him like an ash tree. Giving him strength and power that no mortal could break. He waited until evening one night and slipped hemlock into the communal stew pot. The men died with painful convulsions and the boy slipped away into the night.
