This ask wasn’t particularly suited to @dumbwaystodeviate but it got me thinking so I brought it over to this blog instead because heck yes I have headcanons!
Let us start with Connor: - In hand to hand combat, I think he would be very much a street style kung-fu type of guy. Wouldn’t shy away from fighting dirty and favours the more animal inspired forms. Think of crane blocks (which he uses in canon against Gavin), comes to rest in a dragon stance but will also use less traditional ones like the mantis and monkey. This is his favourite way to engage in combat. It’s honest and equal. - If it’s close combat weapons, he’ll opt for something like butterfly knives or tonfas. Functional, efficient and no nonsense. - At a distance, he prefers sniper rifles, keeps out of the way, half hidden. He likes the element of surprise and sneakiness on his side.
On the other hand, Nines: - When it comes to hand to hand, he is much more disciplined. He’ll opt for something more rigid stances and katas from karate. It’s efficient, brutal and doesn’t leave much to the imagination. He fights because he has to, not because he enjoys it. - When it comes to weapons, Nines prefers to use things from the environment. There’s always a good broom hiding in a corner. Which is why he prefers to train with weapons like a staff. It suits his height nicely, he’s got precision and reach with it. With a staff, he can also use it as a point weapon or a slashing one that doubles as a defence. He’s also a dab hand with nunchucks and enjoys the sound they make, whistling through the air. - With distance, he likes to have a little bit of a flair. Despite being told it’s outdated, he like bows and arrows. A compound bow is what he favours, he likes the weight of the draw, makes him feel he has to work for his shot. If at all possible, Nines likes to keep his distance in fight.
Which leaves 60: - He’s a bit of a wild card, prefers the unpredictability of muay thai, its fast pace and versatility. Despite being built and believing that he’s a machine even in the face of deviancy, he feels very much alive when fighting hand to hand. - His favourite though is when he’s got a weapon in hand. 60 prefers slightly more elaborate and unique ones such as fans and sais. He especially delights in the contrast of delicately stepping back and needlessly fanning himself before spinning into a lethal blow and then settling back. Not that he’d ever mention it to anyone but it makes him feel like a deadly butterfly. - At long range, he likes shotguns. Something and the pellet spray pleases his sensors, he likes to try and predict the pattern before firing. Having said that, 60 also likes to throw grenades and watch the chaos it unleashes.
