The Weaver AU
1 | 2 | 3
Fundy Soot, someone unlike the rest of his family. The hidden prince of the Antarctic Empire, unknown for his own safety, but possesses an ability none of his family had. He is a Weaver.
Technoblade knows this very well, and Phil more so, for it was Phil who told Techno of everything, and for it was Phil who told Fundy exactly what he had to do.
A Weaver, someone who can manipulate and change the very make-up of the world, just by drawing Runes in the air, a magic, an ability only they possess.
They can only be born in a place where a God doesn't reign, for example, the abandoned lands called SMP Earth. No Gods reign there, unlike another place called DreamSMP, where a God does reign.
And such lands, do not last long before they get annihilated. That's what make Weavers so rare.
For Weavers to manipulate and change the very fabric of the world, a rune knife must be used to channel their ability to draw the necessary runes that would allow them to shift and change the world around them as they so please.
Without the Rune Knife, they still could perform various tricks, but not to the full potential. Mostly, it would only extend to items appearing for them. They cannot change the world without their conduit.
They would notice they are special, items they needed, miraculously would appear to them, their power left unchecked, for there are no Gods suppressing their power.
People could call it luck. Fundy thought it normal, he didn't know he was special until he was told.
But if someone chose to observe closely, they would call it magic.
A power, that allowed him to manipulate the universe as he sees fit if there is no residing god in the territory he currently is in.
Such power had the potential to bring about a literal apocalypse, to create new and scarier mobs to roam the territory, to change the properties of the land, it was boundless as long as he had no restrictions.
The Rune Knife is not only a symbol of a Weaver, not only a conduit for Weavers to unlock their full potential, it's also a sign.
For them to run.
-
"Do you know about Weavers at all, Wil?"
"Wha-"
But Technoblade didn't let him finish his sentence. "Weavers are rare, they are strong. However, the reason they are rare, well, reasons, they can only be born in unprotected territories without any reigning gods. Like ours, which is rare since these territories don't survive long, it is only because of Phil that the territory is still here, you know that Wil."
Wilbur understood that much, but it was obvious he was still upset. The emperor sighed at his brother.
"The other reason is, they are hunted down."
Wilbur's eyes went wide. "But they can't find or get him here! We're the Antarctic Empire Techno! No one can get past us! No one would even know about him! How would they-"
"Not by humans, or hybrids." Technoblade interrupted him. Shouting was usually Theseus' thing, but he could justify Wilbur for being worried for Fundy.
"They are hunted by Dreamons."
-
None knew of how Weavers are chosen, why someone was born a Weaver, no one knew what would cause the Knife to appear to the Weaver.
Some Weavers only had the Knife appear to them after a few months of playing with their magic, some immediately after they discovered their uniqueness.
The lucky, or unlucky, depends on how you look at it, ones may never receive their Knife.
Lucky, for they wouldn't be hunted, unlucky, for they will never be able to do anything more than make items appear.
The Rune Knife, a Knife that unlocks their true potential, but a Knife that draws the hunters, the Dreamons, to whoever the Knife resonates with. Every Weaver with a Rune Knife has a unique resonance, no Weaver can use another's Knife. No one, except Gods, can take a Rune Knife away from a Weaver.
The Knife was used for drawing runes in the air, a channel for their ability, a conduit. However, if they were to attempt doing so without the use of a Rune Knife, they wouldn't be able to control the runes, and the runes would have a mind of their own, usually going after thei creator.
But alas, such power comes with a heavy price. Such freedom never last, Weavers pray a Knife never shows itself, for they would lose what little freedom they have.
-
Techno clenched his fist as he watched his youngest family member go further and further out of his range of sight. "Why couldn't he just practice here? There's no reigning god to restrict his weaving!"
"You know why, Techno. Weavers are rare and usually hunted down before they learn their skills or if they aren't protected. The only way to survive is if they find a god for sanctuary and let them stay there, let them learn and experiment, or if the god was once a Weaver, have the god teach them."
-
For if they don't immediately leave after the Knife shows itself, their hunters would have more time to hunt them down. And subsequently, whoever tries to stop the Dreamon.
-
Fundy had wandered far from the cold lands of the Antarctic Empire, from the mass of land and sea of the unprotected SMP Earth territory. He had been going for days on end, without much rest in between because he needed to get to safety.
Phil had told him, in no uncertain terms, that it was ideal he stopped ONLY when he reached protected territory.
Sleep was an issue, they both knew, but he had to keep going, he much values his life over everything else.
He knew he was being hunted, somehow they could pinpoint him, perhaps it was through the rune knife, or perhaps it was him himself, but they were always somewhere behind him.
Keep running, just keep running, if he stops, he knows that he's dead, he wasn't even sure what he was being hunted by, Uncle Techno just told him to never stay still in one place.
His Uncle Techno refused to tell him, and Fundy knew he had his reasons.
Run. His uncle had said. Never stop until you are sure you are safe.
And he will continue to do so.
-
Weavers live a tough life, tough is an understatement, near impossible and painful is more accurate, but Weavers who survived and thrived, who managed to master their ability under all the odds, are also mostly guaranteed a god's power, becoming an equivalent of a god except for immortality. And even with immortality, gods can die.
After all, as Techno always drums into his siblings' and nephew's heads, to never fear or bow before a god, because:
If gods can bleed, gods can die.
-
"Bad." Bad heard footsteps behind him and he turned around, the unconscious child cradled carefully in his hands. "Who's the kid?"
-
Weavers are important, gods especially love to have weavers by their side. A god's territory only expands the more people willingly join them, with a Weaver, the territory can expand exponentially as long as it doesn't cross any other barriers and as long as a Weaver is there to weave the territory's barrier.
-
"I know that look Dream, what are you planning? He's just a child." Sapnap stressed the last part. "And look at him, he's so exhausted."
"I don't plan to do anything to him." he said simply.
His best friend sighed, following Bad and George. "Whatever you do, Dream, remember he's just a child."
Dream merely nodded, his mind elsewhere.

Part of something I'm working on :] A Weaver is basically a coder, but living with the illusion of freedom.
They can only manifest any item they want as long as they know what they want without the Rune Knife.
When the Knife appears to them, no one knows how to make it appear, or what causes it to appear, their potential is unlocked. But they must start running, immediately.
An illusion of freedom, for they are born in a place with no gods to suppress their power. And once they get a taste of what they could do, they must run and find a place where a god reigns over.
