The Yoshi Web Pet Expedition
Now, this all started during one of my journeys through a Geocities archive--Restorativland’s backup this time, if you’re curious. Oocities is fun, but you can’t see where you’re actually going. Anyways, I came across this.
It led to a Yoshi’s Story website, and after messing about with Wayback, I got to this page. Bingo.
Sadly, they needed an account--but they seem to be interactive in some way? I don’t know how that’d work. Clicking the links gets you nowhere.
I thought I remembered them getting rid of Nsider accounts in the future--but not future enough this’d be gone, I didn’t think. Maybe they somehow lifted the restriction? Wishful thinking, but worth trying. I jumped forward. Hm. Nope. It apparently had that message for MONTHS.
Huh, Pikmin food. Nice. Interesting selection of sites which also apparently had this promotion going on.
Thoroughly distracted by Pikmin, now, I detour from my promised Yoshi. Hopefully this works... I eye that ‘get flash’ message with caution. (Not photographed, but there was a quiz to go with it! The actual interactive quiz is gone, but the underlying file remains. I can’t parse the answers, but the questions are still intact.)
Shockingly, it works! No ‘get flash’ pages, bane of my existence they are.
There were also ‘movies’ for red, yellow and blue Pikmin, along with Olimar, but sadly they show up separately and give a 403 Forbidden error.
I try to see the site in the future, but get redirected to Nintendo and thusly 404′d. Sending me back to the actual point, the Yoshi.
Sadly, going to the future there has equally disastrous results. You never will get reunited with your Yoshi. Or maybe you do, who knows. But, before I could... I was met with this. God fucking damnit. Mario taunts me with the secrets that lie beyond this screen. Before you ask, the link doesn’t work.
I sigh, unsatisfied. Guess I will have to steal that guy’s Yoshi. But I’ll give them to you, too. Enjoy your Yoshi, as I hope you have enjoyed this little aimless wander through internet history, in search of Yoshis that may never be found. I wish you well doing whatever this animation is meant to be, Yoshis. Even if nobody is around to see it.
