Mag 78
Oh no 😭 the Archivist is sad because his friend is dead 😭 i miss the days when i could mock him for being oblivious, this is just a bummer.

7 of Swords - MAG 003 Across the Street
Meanings of this one include deception and getting away with something; reversed it means keeping secrets and imposter syndrome.

Relistening to TMA is my favorite thing ever (I will gush forever about how good this series is, both in content and execution).
But MAG 008 "Burned Out" has to be one of my favorite episodes (there's a decent sized list if them, of course, but I have to call this one out)
There's a big difference in listening to it the first time as opposed to once you know the rest of the series and lore.
Because the first time around, it doesn't seem like anything special, I guess? A little weird, cause there is a bit going on all at once.
But the second+ time around! Hilltop Road and Raymond Fielding! Father Edwin Burroughs (poor guy)! The...the blood-filled tree over the spider apple...! That one's still weird. And the Web Table box! AND AGNES! The Web and the Desolation! Ghost action!
There really is a lot going on, it's a bit of a jumble, really, but it's so great.
And Jon's iconic "ah, head trauma and latent schizophrenia - the ghost’s best friends." S1 sarcasm at its finest.
I don't know, a lot of early episodes are like this, but I love this one.
recently relistened to the magnus episode about the kleptomaniac vase and was struck by how weird it was. its just a vase with a funky pattern that gaslights you, except the vase doesnt actually do anything its just the home of some little demon that retcons your shit out of existence and gaslights you about it, and eventually it stole its own vase like the lorax picking himself up by the back of his pants and disappeared, never to be seen again but still nicking everything nailed down or not.
initially this seems like a standard spiral case, but something caught my attention, and that was the similarity in the vase's description to that of the web table. it seemed odd that there would be two aparrently unrelated antique objects with funky patterns and demon creatures living in them. so i started to look into connections between them and fell down the rabbit hole a little.
the only thing i could think of was that both of them had a connection to antiques shops - the vase statement giver was an antiques salesman who bought it from mikaele salesa, and my dude graham who got not-themmed bought the web table from an antiques shop. its a bit of a leap, but its entirely possible that in the five year gap between the not-them getting stuck to the table and the statement of amy patel the web table might have passed through the hands of mikaele salesa. dots connected, end of story.
this post could end here. but it wont.
my next thought was, what about the origins of the spiral vase? it also has a creature tied to it. what if, and this is a massive leap, what if the vase and the table are essentially the same? what if they are both web items, used to tie down creatures of the stranger and the spiral respectively?
what if they were both tied up by adelard dekker?
in conjunction with the earlier leap about salesa, this gives rise to massive questions about the two men. did they know each other? were they friends? enemies? what could have made dekker think giving leashed supernatural entities to salesa was a good idea? did salesa steal them from dekker's vault or wherever he put them? or conversely, did dekker give them as sort of trojan horses in the hopes that salesa would get not-themmed or start losing everything? i have so many questions.
I just remembered I did this quickly while re listing I’m starting to think this apple will be relevent in the next episode
El’s MAG3 (Across The Street) thoughts and review
Notes on my re-listening:
First appearance of a Not-Them ! It’s a recurring theme that I really like in TMA (cf. Not-Sasha overarching plot, MAG77 (The Kind Mother), MAG78 (Distant Cousin))
First appearance of the Web Table. It appeared also in MAG35 (Old Passages) when it is delivered to Jon by delivery company Breekon and Hope and in MAG78 when Jon destroy the table then learn that it was binding the entity of the Not-Them (my poor baby)
Graham’s Journal : « Keep Watching ». Did he knew he was observed ? By who ? Also why did he have the Web Table ?
Review :
I LOVE this episode the atmosphere is just….. brrrrrr perfect
