Tips for the Web Based Interview
I mentioned in my very first post on this blog that I had applied to the DCP previously and had been NLIC’d after I had taken the Web-based interview. When that happened, I was pretty surprised because most people pass the WBI. I wondered what the heck I did wrong, I’m a hard worker and I felt that I had been honest in answering the questions. So I decided to do some research because I was not going to just keep myself in the dark. I wanted answers!
I learned my mistakes and I feel like they are probably very common. I know a lot of people really focus on the phone interview in their vlogs and there is a ton of great tips and information about that portion but the WBI tips are really lacking in my opinion. But never fear, I’m hear to help!
Because the only advice I heard about the WBI was “be honest and you should be fine” and “it’s no big deal” I didn’t have a full understanding of the actual point of the WBI and therefore didn’t take it correctly. My research enlightened me to the purpose of the WBI and helped me understand a few basic and vital mistakes I had made (and you might have made if the same thing happened to you).
1. As I said above, understand the purpose of the WBI. This helps in knowing what they are looking for in the answer section since most of the time there appear to be two correct answers.
a.) They are trying to test your work ethic
b.) They are trying to gauge how well you know yourself/ how sure you are of yourself
a.) on the work ethic types of questions they will give you something like…
Strongly Agree Agree Neutral Disagree Strongly Disagree
So what you should choose is strongly agree. Now, to me, some questions can seem self-absorbed if you pick Strongly Agree but this is Disney, they want the best, so gloat a little bit, we won’t judge you for it.
b.) On the how well you know yourself type questions they will give you some tough ones. These questions will seem like any answer could work. These can trick people into picking neutral if they’re not careful. On these difficult questions it is extra important to pick strong answers. The stronger the answer, the more sure of yourself you seem.
3. Make your answers cohesive. They will ask some questions more than once in a few different wordings. Read carefully and if you did answer honestly, you should be able to keep your answers consistent.
That’s really what I think I messed up on. I think yes, you should be honest but be strongly honest. Also, take it seriously enough to read each question carefully but don’t overthink. It’s a fine line. Also I think you should leave a few answers not so strongly. They don't want perfection, but they do want to make sure you are better than most people. Just be careful not to choose the questions that could go either way as the ones to just agree or disagree with. Like I said, make sure to have a strong opinion on those. (As an example: there were questions like "my coworkers often come to me for my expertise" On this question I just picked Agree. It seemed like a good question to show I had work ethic but I'm not always an expert)
There are more things that maybe I didn’t mention but if you are worried, keep researching for more information. DON’T ONLY TAKE MY ADVICE. I’m not the end all, be all of advice so take my advice with a grain of salt. Best of luck, sending pixie dust to all of you.
