VR GAMING! I've started playing the new VR game Maestro. It's been on my wishlist forever, and now that it's out, my husband got it for me as my early birthday gift.
I've always loved classical music when I was a kid, I used to listen to it on my Walkman and pretend to be a conductor. It drove my mom crazy, because I would be running around the house waving my hands around all the time.
The game teaches more than I expected, which is nice. I don't do this all the time, but I love to watch conductors on YouTube (my favorite is Gustavo Dudamel). Now I will have a better understanding of what they are doing!
HEALTH RELATED! Also, something very, very cool: I am working on standing without support for longer and longer periods of time. I think I really allowed myself to decondition when I first started having trouble, and now I need to build up strength and endurance. Being a pretend Maestro makes it less of a chore to practice standing!
OG CHARACTER! An aside: One of the main characters in my fantasy webcomic is a conductor (because of course I did that!) His story is, his culture is based on bardic magic, and Maestro is a magical title, like Archmage. He was set to be the next one, but his mentor disappeared before he was finished with training, so he went out into the world to discover new music and cobble together his own version.
So, he ended up actually joining an orchestra, becoming concert master, and eventually became an actual conductor. Partially because he wanted to, and partially so that he could still earn the title of Maestro, albeit through a different route.
So, yeah, I have to play a fun game, because it's research.
