Fiddleford headcanons
(To clarify, this is my version of Fiddleford from my semi canon accurate gf au. He is NOT the usual sweet and kind anxious southerner that everyone portrays him as)
Fiddleford,at his core,is a very very lonely man. By the time he reaches his late 20s,he has already achieved everything he has always wanted ever since he was a little boy.
Growing fame, recognition for his success and brilliance, popularity, people who will be loyal to him and provide him with what he needs (Emma May,Ford, his old friends from high school, etc),and being truly acknowledged for his efforts (his business. Mcgucket Labs) instead of being brushed off or told to go away.
But despite this,he still feels hollow. Empty, depressed. Nothing can ever satisfy him,not even building machines every other day. He goes on with his day and maintains his stable, lovable man persona but he still feels like there's something missing. Every day of his life feels like a blur.
At the end of the day,he doesn't catalogue his experiences as "a good/bad day" or "a job well done". No. Instead,he sees his life through the lens of someone who's merely acting according to the script ("I said all the correct things. I did everythin' right. That's good 'nuff for me").
He isn't living,he's 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨. His life is a stage and he's the sole performer who has to keep things running lest the audience will get up and leave and or ignore him. He has to keep doing the motions, say all the right lines. Because if he doesn't,𝘯𝘰 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘩𝘪𝘮.
No one wants the lonely, weird boy who did nothing but talk about his strange interests in bugs and human anatomy. They want a man who provides, someone extraordinary who offers great things to the world. They want someone great, not a useless and unwanted 𝘯𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺.
But the problem is,he never stopped being that strange young boy. He's still the lonely and brilliant kid who wants nothing more than to genuinely be loved and seen for who he is,not for what he can provide. He has done everything to bury his true identity,to get rid of the parts that made him seem "unwanted" to others.
He learnt how to be more desirable, how to turn up the charm just so that people will have no choice but to listen to him. He continued to cultivate his genius and his interests in machinery, eventually establishing a growing business based on inventing personal computers and other useful machines.
There's more. There's SO MUCH MORE. But this is just a lil snippet.
