George Henry Bass founded his shoe company in Maine 1876. Some 50 years later, in 1936, G.H. Bass & Co. adapted a Norwegian farm shoe designed for “loafing in the field” and dubbed them Weejuns. Students across Ivy League campuses adopted them, tucking one cent coins for the pay-phone into the loafers’ front slot. The classic penny loafer was born.

G.H. Bass & Co Scout boot. Burnt-red leather. Goodyear-welted rubber sole. Waxed thread, waxed laces. Brass eyelets. Handmade in El Salvador.

George Henry Bass founded his shoe company in Maine 1876 . In 1906 the first Bass moccasin was designed to be worn by woodsmen. In 1927 Charles A. Lindbergh wore a pair of Bass flying boots in the first transatlantic flight from New York to Paris. The Bass aviation Moccasin 773 became the official aviation boot for the U.S. Army, to provide protection from extreme cold at high altitude and in 1934 Bradford Washburn wore Bass Boots while exploring the Alaska-Yukon Boundary.
