I liked the premise of Qrows alcoholism changing from a joke to an issue because it’s honestly a great idea to have the the things the audience laughed along at be cast in a different light that makes them question their own reactions. Like instead of feeding them the answer from then get go. Implementation was off tho

honestly? agree.

i think the main criticism comes from how it was essentially never addressed again post some love sick gazing between him & clover alongside one minor moment of temptation but. if it had been implemented into the narrative properly, it could’ve been a really good moment of showing how ruby’s world view is developing as our main protaganist.

no longer are qrow’s antics just her “funny drunkle qrow” like both her & the audience thought, we now get to see them for what they actually are; the incredibly maladaptive & harmful coping mechanisms of a severely traumatized man. ruby isn’t seeing the world, or her uncle, with rose coloured glasses anymore & neither should we. it’s just the implementation & subsequent handling of the material left a lot to be desired.

RWBY writes PoC characters like shit. Almost everyone in RWBY is shittily written. Therefore, RWBY should be praised for having a majority PoC cast before Black Panther.

It's weird that Adam was so willing to show Blake the most horrific that ever happened to him, but I guess if he was genuinely pained and hurt over it the audience may have sympathised with him, so CRWBY needed to make inveiling yet another reason for them to hate him instead.

okay but this is absolutely it. like yes, clearly adam showing the scar to guilt trip blake is bad & it was bad of him to do that. however i’m going to be more annoyed with the writers than a character; especially since they wrote it so adam's scar was never about him as a victim of the most horrific, racist abuse on the show; far more than blake had ever experienced. it was all about blake, it centred her over another faunus' trauma because even when other faunus are still harmed by systems she benefitted from, they just have to suck it up & deal with it. all while blake gets a boo boo comparatively & is hand held by the narrative for volumes. adam has been one of the most active faunus fighting for faunus rights  —  in "bad” ways  —  but the way he is demonized even before his full descent into mania while all lives matter belladonna family, especially ghira, was glorified for a useless pacifism route, grates on me so much. even mlk had a gun & advocated for necessary action. at least stick fully to the ideals you’re trying to give this character, not a whitewashed, white america, white comfort version of the man. mkek wrote this storyline the exact way he warned people to look out for white moderates who value white comfort over rights & progress for minorities.

i could really go on for hours about how i hate that they essentially put blake into the most privileged position for a faunus canonically & did nothing to self reflect on that or centre more disadvantaged faunus who were basically blamed or tossed aside.

That Faunus!Roman post makes me want to see how Adam would take knowing Cinder forced another ex-slave Faunus to work under her.

honestly probably not well but there wouldn't be much that he could do just like in canon because of cinder's power & threat against his people; however i do think that there would be a boiling point to his anger & she would be fast approaching it. but, it would also be interesting to see his reaction to roman's internalized & externalized racism towards his own if that remained the same in the au.
