i don’t think enough people talk about how literal facets of propaganda especially targeted towards marginalized women & indigenous women at a terrifying rate — such as sexualization & painting them as hysterical for their emotions & needing to be “rescued” from their own culture — was used during the ember island players episode & it wasn’t paid half the actual seriousness that was needed. even her own brother agrees with the propaganda, along with her “love interest” & her friends.

katara was mocked using actual violent ways of dehumanizing women & wasn’t even allowed half the indignity aang was for “being played by a woman” as if that was an insult. bryke used actual forms of propaganda for their main dark skinned girl & didn’t even have the self awareness to not play straight into it in how the show essentially punishes katara for everything the play mocked her for. it’s super uncomfortable in rewatches.
