Like, we love and accept those who joined our umbrella through life-saving hanahaki prevention surgery, of course we do, but it gets really irritating when people make posts that are all like:

Or when people always fucking assume that it must have been hanahaki because noone could be born like that, right??
And don't get me started on the hanahaki chasers popping up in every aro's fucking inbox. Hanahaki survivors I will fist fight those fucks for you. I don't get how people think it's sweet and romantic to try and romance someone who's had their ability to feel romantic love surgically removed.
Like no. Those fucks are as bad as straight dudes trying to "turn lesbians straight" with their magic cocks. I don't understand how the larger queer community doesn't see this. It's a true inheritor to the Hunger Games in that yes, there is violence, televised, glorified violence, but also this is a stunning critique of the entertainment industry and America. Chain-Gang All-Stars also raises it's metaphorical weaponry at the justice system of the United States and just. Fucking. murders it. The way it bounces between the future sci-fi horrific penal system and the current horrific penal system and shows how close we are to making that jump.....
Humanizing and horrifying, this book is, in terms of words, an easy enough read for me, but in terms of topic? I had to keep putting it down. I feel like Loretta has stuck a fucking hammer in my ribcage. I feel horrible for making that comparison. The ending is ouagh.
The characters are perfectly imperfect and human and fucked up and sorry and not and terrible and loving and trying and trying and trying so so hard.

I did finish it - it was good. That front quote, "come for the silliness, stay for the twists" was very accurate.
8/10: a silly, funny romp with interesting world building. It manages to deal with many different levels of threat and changes in world building assumptions without giving unpleasant tonal whiplash. I would read a whole book of SMS Lunatic Freak. Was not expecting anything like them, but they are entirely my jam.

Help. I didn't realise that I could binge watch shows but, after having done my normal and sensible one-episode-an-evening thing, I have now watched 4 dead boy detective episodes in one day.
