June 28th, Enid’s birthday
Wednesday: Alright, Viper, Lupin, Roku. Are you three ready? Your mother will be home any minute now.
Four year old Lupin nods aggressively, three year old Roku joins in too.
Wednesday: Viper, go get the cake. I’ll make sure she doesn’t bust through the door while were hiding.
Viper runs off into the kitchen, returns with the cake and hands it to Lupin, who starts heading upstairs with Roku in tow.
Wednesday: You ready Viper?
Viper shakes herself, and transforms into a wolf pup, she yips and runs off upstairs.
Wednesday smirks, silently stepping toward the window, seeing Enid step out of the car.
She slinks back into the shadows, and waits.
Enid, stepping through the door: I’m home!
Enid pauses, looking around: Wednesday? Lupin? Viper? Roku?
Enid now stepping toward the kitchen: Hello?
Wednesday darts from her hiding place, sneaking behind Enid’s back.
Enid, whipping around: Wednesday?
Enid, now concerned: Come out guys.
Enid steps further into the house, taking a left into the kitchen: Guys..?
Wednesday darts upstairs, and into the pitch black room that everyone is hiding in.
Wednesday, whispering: Shhh, shes in the kitchen. Be ready to put on your scariest faces.
The kids, giggling: Okay!
Enid, now stepping up the stairs cautiously: Guys? Come on out now, I can smell you all.
Wednesday stands, gently taking the cake from Lupin and placing it on the bed.
Wednesday: Remember how I taught you all to make your eyes glow?
The kids nod, straining their faces and causing their eyes to illuminate.
Wednesday: Good, now just stare at the door.
Enid steps closer to the door, placing a hand on the knob: Are you in here?
Enid opens the door, and freezes when four pairs of eyes land on her.
Enid stares, her face going pale. Vipers brightly cyan colored eyes, Lupins forest green eyes, and Rokus blood red eyes all stare uncomfortably at Enid.
Wednesday blinks, her own jet-black eyes illuminating a midnight blue against the darkness of the room.
Enid, without breaking eye contact, shambles for the light-switch.
As the lights flick on, the children giggle and smile from ear to ear, holding the birthday cake with a large, “Happy Birthday Mom” sprawled on it.
Enid, sighing the biggest exhale of relief: I almost shit my pants.
Wednesday: We could see that.
