The air was cold and crisp and the sky was a freezing blue, making a sharp contrast against the dry and blackened tree branches of the park. It might not have been the best conditions for singing – singing in the cold guaranteed sore throats if one wasn’t careful. Still, Easton had come outside, his guitar slung over his shoulder and replaying over and over in his head the most recent songs he had written.
His workload had hit its peak, and the announced due date for his new album was approaching ever swiftly. Even if there were moments where he wasn’t having meetings with his band members or his producers, he still had to practice and practice and practice, engraving the notes and lyrics into his mind and body. Music granted him his liberty, but also his self-esteem; he wouldn’t have been able to forgive himself if he had failed to meet his own expectations when it came to his songs.
He started to do what he always started his little practicing sessions with – vocal riffing comprised of no words, but merely his voice, the notes shifting fluidly from the low to the high then to the low again, and then smoothly growing into a long, high belting of sound. He was about to start the first verse of an actual song when he noticed that he wasn’t the only one putting their voice to public use. He blinked, then smiled at the girl, still carrying his guitar in his arms.
“It’s been long since I saw you.” He said. “Wendy, wasn’t it?”
