I never really got why even before the whole Nogitsune thing, people had Stiles as a werefox.
I understand a lot of it is because foxes are known for their cleverness, and Stiles is certainly brilliant, but clever isn’t the first thing I think of when it comes to Stiles. Yeah, it’s one of the top three, maybe even the top two, but there is one more characteristic that I think is much more prominent and defining of his character: Loyalty.
Stiles in the one who helped Scott through Lycanthrope, he stepped into the gasoline, crashed his car countless time, almost let someone shoot him through the head. Stiles is loyal before anything else.
Foxes don’t have packs.
So, I propose and alternative: a hyena.
Specifically a spotted hyena.
I say this for many reasons:
1. Spots. Moles. Enough said.
2. Spotted hyenas are very social creatures, the only type of hyena that really stays in a pack, but they are typically very tight knit packs. Very loyal.
3. They’re assumed to be cowardly, but have been known to fight lions.
4. Obviously there’s that whole laughing thing. Sarcasm and joking around are Stiles’ main defenses.
5. Werehyenas are totally a thing! especially in Ethiopia, Sudan, Morocco, and Tazmania. It’s believed that blacksmiths, who were certainly intelligent if they could work metal and manipulate it into doing what they want, are all werehyenas.
6. Spotted Hyenas are all gangling and long limbed and kinda look weird when you first see them, but the more you look the more adorable they seem. I kinda felt that way first seeing Stiles in season 1.
So, for those reasons I think Stiles would be a werehyena. The end.
