Alexander (Grimm) - Crossover AU - Chapter 40 - Final
It took a while to walk into Alexander’s office and not be as red as a cherry.
It’s funny how things tend to work out. You can’t help but smile at how it all transpired. You’re on your way to the local coffee shop. Alexander knows how you get when you haven’t gotten your tea. As you’re walking, your focus is diverted when you feel the vibration of your phone. You slide it out of your pocket, still walking forward.
“Looking as beautiful as ever Ms. Jane.”
You laugh at the message, texting back.
“How can you tell?”
You smile, awaiting the response.
“Look up.”
You do, and he’s standing by the door of said coffee shop. He reaches for the handle, opening it.
“After you.”
You walk over, tiptoeing as you leave a kiss on his cheek with a smile. Once you pull away, he shares your smile, following you inside. You both find a seat after you’ve ordered.
“So how is crime fighting going with my dad? “
He’d told you about the case he worked with the FBI a few weeks ago. Since then their paths have crossed a few more times.
“He is quite an interesting man. I see where you get your reckless behavior and addiction for tea from.”
“It’s not an addiction, I can stop at any time!”
The statement urges a memory, one that makes Alexander smile to himself.
“So when are you planning to pop the question?”
Jane’s statement made Alexander stiffen. After the most recent take down of a criminal organization, they were both in the conference room. Alexander was packing his briefcase while Lisbon and the others were busy at their respective desks sifting through paperwork.
“Pardon?”
Jane just smiled.
“When are you going to ask my daughter to marry you?”
It couldn’t get much clearer than that.
Alexander looks stunned.
“How did you-”
“I’m not as clueless as you might think.”
The statement didn’t seem completely directed at the discovery of his feelings. Alexander narrowed his eyes, and Jane felt appreciative for the one on one.
“I know about Wesen, I know you’re one of them and I know that somehow my daughter is now a Grimm.”
If he were expecting anything, it wasn’t that. Alexander’s eyes glowed, but when he saw no reaction, it became clear that Jane was not one himself. He wasn’t sure what to say.
Jane expected as much.
“When we spoke to her a few weeks ago, we could tell something was wrong. She seemed withdrawn, sad. Then that all changed. I might not have the gift, but I’ve met a few Grimms in my time, and their mannerisms are the same. “
Alexander felt like he should expect nothing less from Jane. Now he felt guilty, because if Jane knew about Grimms, then he knew everything. All of it. His head lowered in shame.
“I should have done a better job at-”
“Protecting her?”
Alexander refused to lift his head, and all Jane could offer was a light pat on the shoulder.
“I’ve done my best to protect my daughter all my life. After what happened with my family I.. I told myself that whoever (Y/N) ended up with, I would ensure that they were the right one. I know for a fact that person is you. I can say without a doubt that the only person that loves my daughter more than my wife and I, is you.”
Alexander looked up, and the smile on Jane’s face felt like everything he needed. That reassurance.
“Regardless of what happened, she’s safe now. I have a feeling that’s because of you and your friends. In the past, all the other people she’s ever worked with, to them, she was just an asset, a tool. But in Portland, she has a family. There’s nothing else a parent can hope for regarding their child.”
Jane lowered his hand, and he could see the weight of that burden slowly leave his Alexander’s shoulders. The weight he’d been wearing for the last few jobs together. When Alexander reached into the pocket of his coat and pulled out the small square black box, Jane’s smile got bigger. Alexander merely chuckled. He should have known better than to try to hide such a thing from someone like Jane.
“I’ve been holding onto it for a few weeks. More than anything I would like to make (Y/N) my wife. From the moment we met there’s just been something there. “
Jane’s eye strayed to the side, glancing at Lisbon at her desk.
“I completely understand.”
He looked back at Alexander who still seemed hesitant, gripping the box in his hand.
“We haven’t known each other for very long and with the discovery of her new abilities, there may be uncertainty on her part.”
“Do you love her?”
“With every bone in my body.”
Jane appreciated the honesty.
“Then you have nothing to worry about. Despite what has happened, you’re still at her side. If your feelings were that fleeting, you would have bolted the second you learned about what she was truly capable of. If you love her, then you need to have faith that your love, as well as hers is enough.”
Such simple words held so much weight. Alexander found himself sharing the smile Jane wore. Sliding the box back into his pocket, he nodded.
“When the moment is right, you will know.”
Jane’s words were exactly what he needed.
Sitting in the coffee shop, looking at you go on about a case, Alexander realized that Jane was right. The both of you have gone through what most people could only dream of. Yet you’re still standing. Faith was all he needed. Because there was a reason that you’d ended up in Portland.
If he could befriend not one, but two Grimms, then the future, one with you, it must be exactly what he’s hoped for, always wanted.
He’s happy.
“Do you want some more coffee?”
The waitress was holding the small pot, watching him expectantly.
Alexander blinked, nodding.
“Yes, thank you.”
He hadn’t even realized that he ran out.
The woman poured him a fresh cup, sending a smile. The way her face lit up made him pause, eyes a bit narrowed. There was something familiar about her.
“Pardon, but have we met before?”
She gave a nervous smile, shaking her head as she brushed a lock behind her ear.
“D-Definitely not.”
She couldn’t have been older than twenty, and you looked over to gauge the interaction. You were a bit puzzled yourself, because she did look familiar. Her hair reminded you a lot of your own. The way it tended to be early in the morning. But her eyes, if you had to guess, you would say they were similar to Alexander’s.
“Well, enjoy your breakfast!”
She gave one last smile before she was heading back behind the desk, right into the kitchen. Both you and Alexander exchanged a look.
“That..”
Alexander started.
“It couldn’t be..”
You mumble.
It must have been your imagination.
You both share a smile, laughing at the silly idea. Alexander reaches over, taking your hand, and in that moment, you feel truly content.
