Like, I'm not picky when it comes to low-budget fantasy films. This one (which I only know about because I believe the director went to my high school, so when it came out there were a couple home town screenings and articles in the paper about it) doesn't have the best acting, but it does have actors willing to commit to the bit and yell out the name "Westender" a bunch of times without feeling stupid. Its costuming is basically Renfaire/SCA-level, but it's at least clear that someone made the costumes for the movie, they didn't just buy a bunch of PLAIN WHITE T-SHIRTS. The plot as I remember it is kinda thin, but it's enough to keep your eyes on the screen. What it does have is a good score, and someone who's good enough at location scouting to find a bunch of cool places around Oregon to shoot their fantasy epic. It works. Granted, I haven't seen the movie in a long while, but I liked it enough the first time I watched it to snap up the DVD when I randomly encountered it in a CD store years later, and that's not nothing.

My rating: 4/10

Some guy wanders about a lot, there's LARP type shenanigans and the whole thing helps him get over his manpain, I guess. Also, I don't know whether the DVD I have was made using a bad copy or something, but the whole thing looks terrible, all blurry and grainy and hard to look at.

Since one of our team is in Japan at the moment we thought it a good time to brush up on our wrapping knowledge!

Furoshiki (風呂敷) are a type of traditional Japanese wrapping cloth traditionally used to transport clothes, gifts, or other goods. It’s a beautiful way to wrap a gift, we’ll have to give it a go in the shop!
