Since one of our team is in Japan at the moment we thought it a good time to brush up on our wrapping knowledge!
Furoshiki (風呂敷) are a type of traditional Japanese wrapping cloth traditionally used to transport clothes, gifts, or other goods. It’s a beautiful way to wrap a gift, we’ll have to give it a go in the shop!

Yoram Morhain is one of the UK’s leading jewellery designers, using natural materials to create intricate designs.

Matt Pugh designs and produces contemporary furniture and home accessories. Working with a small team of artisans and craftsmen in a workshop nestled in the rolling hills near Bath in the west of England.
With longevity in mind, creating refined and beautifully crafted pieces from quality sustainable materials, combining simple detailing with a splash of colour.
Choosing natural materials for their timeless quality and minimal impact on the environment, each piece is designed and made to last more than a life time.
We have been proud stockists of Matt Pugh’s designs for years, and have a shipment of these crafty owls on its way! We also have one of these cat lamps left in stock - they’re pretty hard to find these days!
Julia Smith graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1996 then followed a career in community art until 2010. That year she moved to the Highlands and set up her pottery studio on the banks of the Moray Firth. The remote environment she lives in has strongly influenced both the work she produces and the materials she uses.
In 2013 she went to Denmark on a residency to research and develop experimental clay printing techniques and a trip to Iceland in 2014 led to a series of pots inspired by the volcanic and glacial landscape.
She exhibits her sculptural pots regularly throughout the UK and sells a range of everyday tableware.
This gorgeous new range of frames from Lancaster & Gibbings takes inspiration from the Japanese craft of engraving on coloured glass.
Edo kiriko, or cut glass, is a manufacturing method in which clear colours and delicate patterns are cut into glass.
It’s said that Edo kiriko was founded in 1834 by Kagaya Kyubei, who operated a glassware store in the Odenmacho area of Edo, now better known as Tokyo. After studying in Osaka, which had developed advanced glassware manufacturing methods, he returned to Edo and operated a glassware store that manufactured eyeglasses and thermometers. From there, cut glass gradually spread throughout Edo.
Edo kiriko features designs like none other. The popular patterns that were made during the Edo Period were known as nanako (combining the Chinese characters for “fish” and “child”), as the patterns looked as if they were composed of many drops of fish eggs connected together. Today, patterns such as yarai (resembling a rain of arrows), chrysanthemums and hemp leaves are also used either alone or in combination with nanako. Products made using these designs include tokuri (sake bottles) and guinomi (sake cups), as well as Western products such as wine glasses, rocks glasses and other products such as dishes and vases.

Jamie Frame is a trained engineer with a passion for art and design. He started creating his unique carved wooden wall maps in May of 2014. Since then Jamie Frame Design has established stockists throughout Scotland and Britain and we’re proud to have been selling his wonderful pieces in Cassiopeia since the beginning.
His trademark carved topographical wooden wall maps are made from unique designs using CNC machining techniques. The maps are carved from the finest Birch plywood and finished with a natural wood wax.
The changes in the depths of the carved areas represent the undulations in the natural terrain. The blend of the alternating directions of the wood grain in the plywood and the slight changes in the birch wood colour and texture enables a beautiful and natural representation of the geography of the land.
Jamie makes each piece himself personally and his passion shines through in the quality of his work.

Tina Kotsoni was born in Athens in 1975 , she created her first designs during her school years and decided to pursue a career in art.
She studied jewellery and glyptography in Athens and also attended seminars on many various jewellery techniques. Since 2004 she has been working from her own workshop in Athens.
Efthimis Stergioulas was born in Thessaloniki In 1965.
He studied civil engineering and marketing. A self taught jeweller, he began experimenting as an enameller and in 2005 he created his own workshop named “Atexno”.
Efthimis Stergioulas has developed his own distinct style in forms and techniques.
Today they live in Aegina island and they own a gallery and also a workshop named “T.kotsoni”.
The two artists design and create exclusively unique hand made jewels.
The materials they use are silver, bronze combined with semiprecious stones and fresh water pearls .
Guided by love for their work, the couple keep looking for new ways in which to perfect their art.

We’re thrilled to have some of our Kazuri Jewellery featured on the front cover of the Westender Magazine this month!
This is where our Kazuri beads get made.
It makes us so happy to be able to support an organisation like this one.
Kazuri, which means small and beautiful in Swahili, is hand-painted ceramic jewellery made in Kenya. Every bead which makes up a necklace or bracelet is shaped by hand by one of the 300 local women employed by Kazuri. The beads are then kiln fired once, glazed and fired again before being strung. Founded by the late Lady Susan Wood, Kazuri is still located where she first started creating employment for struggling single mothers back in 1975.
We have started stocking Kevin Hunter’s beautiful paintings in our little shop.
Kevin is a landscape painter from Glasgow, whose work has been exhibited across Scotland, England and Canada.
This atmospheric painting of Glasgow University would make a perfect graduation gift!
