“I don't know if American liberals, let alone American conservatives, are literate enough in global politics and otherwise to understand why Mark Carney's speech at the Davos forum was actually such a big deal in a way that is shockingly honest and clear eyed for a Western head of state.

He lays out how it is the fault of liberalism that we are in this situation where the transatlantic partnership might be torn apart and he places correctly the culpability of the entire West in upholding America as an empire and as a superpower.

He admits that the international rules based order has been a farce, selectively applied to countries based on whether or not there are an ally or an adversary of the United States. And he goes on to specify that because of Canada's relationship with the US, it has benefited from the loots of US imperialism.

Just like leftists have been saying for decades. And I don't know if people fully understand that that's what he's admitting to, because I've been in a couple of these comment sections under the video of Carney's speech, and you have people talking about: ‘man, wouldn't it be nice to have a world leader who can speak in full sentences?’ ‘Oh, Donald Trump is going to need a stupid translator for this speech.’

Brother, what he [Carney] is admitting to undermines the entire foundation of your worldview, of your existence as an American. Like, surely you have more to say about this than that?

And it makes me think that all of these replies by anti-Trump liberals that are basically saying ‘wow, that speech was really wordy’ isn't because you're worried that Donald Trump won't understand it. It may actually just be that you don't understand it, which ultimately doesn't really surprise me, because liberalism requires you to ignore basic fact about history, which is that it is the product of a process of class conflict.

And until liberals can grasp that we are in this situation not because Trump is stupid, but because of the necessities of American imperialism, they are doomed to only get the surface level from what someone like Mark Carney, who for all the possible critiques that can be made of him and there are many, does genuinely understand the world system.

One last thing. It is really funny that the modern iteration of Charles de Gaulle is from Canada, while the actual French head of state is too busy aura farming at the Davos forum and getting his DM's leaked where he talks about, oh, let's keep the imperialism to the brown people, please. That's just hilarious.”

Women were never meant to give birth on their backs

For thousands of years, across the world, women tended to give birth in an upright position – whether kneeling as per Cleopatra, using birthing stools and chairs, or squatting. In fact, squatting can enlarge the pelvic diameter by at least 2.5cm (1in), while working with gravity makes it far easier to give birth. So why do so many women today give birth on their backs? "There is a generalised ignorance amongst professions and pregnant women about the physiology of birth," says Janet Balaskas, founder of the Active Birth Centre in the UK, and author of a number of books detailing how mothers can take control of their birth experience. In 1982, Balaskas published an "active birth manifesto" that became the central tenet of her organisation. "Throughout the world, and for thousands of years, women have spontaneously laboured and given birth in some form of upright or crouching positions," the manifesto reads. "Whatever the race or culture… the same upright positions predominate." Most women in post-industrial countries are confined to hospital in recumbent positions, Balaskas says. "This practice is illogical, making birth needlessly complicated and expensive, turning a natural process into a medical event and the labouring woman into a passive patient," she argues. "No other species adopts such a disadvantageous position at such a crucial time." Other experts agree. In fact, giving birth lying down is a "relatively modern phenomenon", Hannah Dahlen, professor of midwifery at Australia's Western Sydney University, wrote in a 2013 op-ed for The Conversation.
