Spock, please get out of the tank
North Atlantic Right Whales are one of the most endangered species of whales on Earth. Their populations were decimated through commercial whaling as they were considered the “right” Whale to catch given their slow speed, proximity to shore, and large amount of blubber which kept their bodies afloat after death. Currently most scientists agree that their are two populations of Northern Atlantic Right Whales: a Western and an Eastern. The Western population likely now has just over 400 members and they’re numbers are slowly but steadily increasing. The Eastern population on the other hand likely now has less than 20 members and is considered by many scientists to be functionally extinct. #whaletales #NARW #rightwhale #funfactfriday #whales #whalesareawesome #photography #didyouknow #trivia #whalefact #whalelove https://www.instagram.com/p/CRHc2w1MYfu/?utm_medium=tumblr

MS TRACKS YOU ARE ON WHALE FACT'S INSTA STORY
Huh, so I am. Only fair, since I did use their, uh, fact.
I am consistently surprised to see how many Instagram accounts there are that post a lot of my memes, and that I seem to exist beyond my own Tumblr. As long as they’re giving credit, I guess that’s what memes are for…
It's #funfactfriday! Did you know that Beaked whales are one of the most mysterious groups in the cetacean world? Though there are 22-24 species, only 4 are reasonably well studied. The group as a whole is quite widespread, ranging from the ice edges of both poles all the way to the equator. The two things that all beaked whales have in common are their pronounced "beak" or rostrum and an amazing diving ability. Thanks to a number of physiological adaptations beaked whales are some of the best diving mammals in the world! ⠀ #whaletales #beakedwhales #funfact #whaletrivia #whales #dyk #whalesareawesome #whalefact #whalesofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CSzq3ERhsaY/?utm_medium=tumblr
It's #FunFactFriday! Did you know that there are two species of Bottlenose Whale? The Northern Bottlenose Whale can be found throughout the North Atlantic Ocean, usually where the depth is greater than 6,500 feet and the Southern Bottlenose Whale is found throughout the southernmost parts of the Southern Ocean, including all along the Antarctic coastline. Both species of this beaked whale were named for the distinct “glass bottle” appearance of their rostrum, just like their distant dolphin cousin.⠀ #whaletales #funfact #trivia #bottlenosewhale #beakedwhale #whales #whalesareawesome #whalefact #whalesofinstagram #dyk https://www.instagram.com/p/CR9hUzzHL4y/?utm_medium=tumblr
