What We Devour (Linsey Miller)
Ngl I had very low expectations when I picked up this book. I have grown steadily less patient with YA, and I'm in a reading slump on top of that - I kinda expected to DNF this book after a week
What happened instead is that I finished it in two days lmao
A very interesting representation of aceness in the main character and others' reactions to her. I feel like by now I've seen several sex repulsed and sex positive aces in books, but Lorena is the first sex indifferent one I read and it was very relatable when touched upon
Kept me engaged despite my current lack of focus
Anti capitalist message interestingly woven into a fantasy setting
Sometimes the narration just skips over things in a way that makes it hard to follow
A couple predictable twists treated as big reveals
No falling action and as far as I know no sequel planned
A weird lack of emotions after certain supposedly very dark plot points which removes a lot of their impact, including the conclusion
I still don't know if I'd recommend it, but I'm definitely glad I read it, it was an interesting book. I've seen a few reviewer say it felt like a raw draft and I kinda agree, the potential was there but it might have benefited from more editing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
