'The Matrix', ''Wizard'', #92, April 1999 I don't think I've ever seen an advertisement for 'The Matrix' until today. When I went to see that film in the theater in 1999, I went in completely cold, with zero knowledge as to what I was going to see other than the vague notion that it was a science fiction movie. It was a joy to be surprised with an engaging, fun film (save for that closing scene of Keanu Reeves flying away which induced a laugh). The absence of expectations and the willingness to be open to whatever it was I was about to experience left me feeling delightfully satisfied walking out of the theater into the real world again. It's a rare feeling to have in the wake of most movies these days.
