White House Correspondents Dinner
Tonight, the White House Correspondents dinner will take place without Donald Trump. Instead, he’ll be in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, addressing supporters at a rally.
This is clearly a trap that the media will lose. He will reinforce his message that he’s fighting for the little guy out in Pennsylvania while the corrupt media and political elites spend time laughing at Trump in a luxurious setting, meeting liberal celebrities.
While Trump may not fight for any entities aside from the rich and corporations, some of the above depiction is true: the dinner is more or less an opportunity for the press to mingle with celebrities and politicians. It demonstrates the cozy relationship between the national media and politicians, and it can easily be pointed to as a sign that the corporate media does not resemble the vast majority of Americans it alleges to inform.
It’s likely tomorrow that liberals will point to Trump as a fool for skipping the White House Correspondents Dinner. They’ll play videos of the jokes made at his expense. They’ll list as cowards the members of his administration who don’t attend.
But to Trump’s base, the media will have been exposed again as corrupt. And make no mistake about it, the corporate media--especially the media based in Washington, D.C.--lives in a bubble and is out of touch with citizens throughout the nation. And tonight, the corporate media will give itself the night off, admire itself and the work it does to “resist” Trump, and tomorrow it will fail to understand why so many millions of Americans find the mainstream media’s work bankrupt.
MSNBC, please tell Rachel Maddow to chill about Trump’s tax returns. I don’t know what you think you’ll find in there, but there’s isn’t going to be a line item that just says 'bribes from Russia.' That’s not how it works. You'll be like 'Oh, I found the 1040 USSR!' It doesn’t work like that!

the whca shooting and the ballroom "solution" very much puts edgar allen poes "masque of the red death" in my mind.
massive problem plaguing the people, causing them to live in fear that the people in charge refuse to to anything abt, instead holing up in a palace of overindulgence and opulence to party their hearts out, safe and sound from the very real violent presence they are ignoring.
the hope in my heart remembers how the masque of the red death ended.
I get why Donald Trump didn’t want to be roasted tonight. By the looks of him, he has been roasting nonstop for the past 70 years.

MSNBC is here tonight. And I’m glad you guys are here. That way if I’m bombing, Brian Williams will describe it as stunning.
