When It’s Over || Pepper & Faith
Days into the world being almost whole again and Faith finds herself on the porch of a little lake house in the middle of bleeding nowhere. It's hard to tell if she's in mourning, the way she's dressed. Not much in the way of color, but she doesn't pay much attention to what she wears these days.
She didn't know Nat well, but she can feel the weight of her absence in the small, anguished groups huddled together at the lake shore. Nothing about this is right, but there's not much to be done about it. This isn’t about Nat, though.
It's getting dark when Faith finally finds Pepper alone at the end of the dock. No one's left, not yet. There's a sad sort of mingling going on in the background. Hugging. Sharing stories about their fallen soldiers. It's all noise to her. She winds up the courage to speak because she's had a hard time finding strength since she's been back in the land of the living --- it's like a weird low, sort of hollow and dark but barely there.
Finally, she manages to stir up some of that old Faith wherewithal and finds a voice, "How you holdin’ up, P?"
