So, why is parenting in a relationship so hard?

Serious question! Why??

I get that the hours are long and you're tired by the weekend, but, but, but, what about MY weekend?

I think weekends are a myth once you have children. They are the things that fairytales are made of. The "sleep ins", the indulgent "brunch dates", the sneaky "alone time" together without being interrupted.

But it's not like this at all...

As a Mum I constantly feel alone.

I feel like I'm constantly juggling my husband, dog and child, refereeing if you will.

The simple act of getting breakfast for the child has a 17 step walkthrough, EVERY BLOODY WEEKEND... I know you're trying, but seriously?!

Keeping a schedule, keeping track of making sure the child is fed and watered, making sure the house is up to date, making sure there are clean clothes for weekends and for work, making sure all expectations are met. Ensuring there is food on the table at a reasonable hour, deciding what to have and making it.

Occupying the child, being at the mercy of the child.

Pushing through when you're not yourself.

Being there for your friends and family.

The whole weight of the world on your shoulders.

And you get.... nothing. Absolutely nothing...

It's like husbands by shares in horse blinkers and are constantly in a world of tunnel vision, "deep in thought", or just couldn't be bothered mode!

It's just like having a groen up child.... you're married to a child.

You're relationship ceased to exist when you birthed...

And it's only when Mums loose their cool that Dads tend to obviously step up as if they need to walk on eggshells, nah mate, you just need to walk at all!

This is why it takes a village, and dare I say, the village is usually women!
