Khiva is located in Uzbekistan's north west and was a trading hub, especially for slaves, during the silk road era. Had a great private guided tour of the old city, climbed a minaret, resisted the temptation to eat plov served in the streets, visited a few ancient madrassas and walked the mud walls of the old town. A glimpse of Uzbekistan's capital....Tashkent. As I embark on the main reason for this trip, Uzbekistan, I leave you with this image of me channeling my inner Borat...Kazakhstan's most famous resident. (What has be seen cannot be unseen) Almaty has been historically interesting, the people have been really friendly (and curious), the mountains are beautiful and so close to the city, the influences of the Soviets and their former nomadic lifestyle makes for a fascinating blend.
