I wouldn’t be surprised if they hadn’t specifically written it in the most incendiary way possible? You can summarise the plot of each HP book so it sounds like a crappy fic, so of course you can with this.

Tuesday! There’s bigger gaps in the first couple of weeks of previews. And remember, at this point around 1400 members of the public have seen the whole show, twice that have seen the first half. The reactions you are seeing are very unlikely to be from people who have actually seen it, just summaries.

yeah, hi! i am watching pll and i will tell u my feels.
first off in response to the whole spinoff thing. yeah, i’m like eerily good at knowing when a show is focusing on new characters in a particular episode JUST so they can kickstart a spinoff. i’ve done it w/ so many shows and my mom has always been so appalled that if she looks it up, it’ll say that a spinoff is supposed to air the following fall or w/e lol. anyway, yeah it was a spinoff called ravenswood that got cancelled after the first season (i’m assuming caleb came home to hanna sometime in s5 and if he didn’t i’m going to cut someone) bc of low ratings. also i haven’t got to the break up part in pll so i’m not sure exactly what happens there but i knew about it bc of my looking up ravenswood, so don’t freak out that you spoiled that for me lol.

i think it’s p freaking awesome. the first two seasons were great and flowed really well. i think it took me a little while to get used to how the vibe changed in s3 but after i got used to it, i was fine with it.
i think there are a lot - a LOT - of things that would make me stop watching the show.
i think it has a bit too much drama that takes the show to the level on the cusp of shows that are on the cusp of a soap (one tree hill, gossip girls, etc).
i think that the girls guess things that are so random just from ONE little fact that they see that sometimes i sit there like obviously you were wrong u dumbos, you saw something that belonged to the friend of a friend of ur friend who was somehow related to alison in some way. i mean the show makes it that even when they do make outrageous guesses they still somehow stumble upon something that that person is connected with which connects with something else which connects to alison so it all works out. but here’s a question… where the fuck is noel kahn? he was such an important person to them and their whole “a” thing and now he’s just nowhere, even after they brought him back in s3 to be connected to the big bad again like???????? what???? what is happening?????
i think that it has moments of bad writing - like in the first season when they read their texts in perfect unison basically every time they got one (like… c’mon), repeated story lines, the entire teacher/student TERRIBLENESS that is ezra and aria and the fact that the show makes it seem like it’s okay and that ezra shouldn’t go to jail???? (newsflash he should), etc.
but i also think that everything else combats it enough that it’s not even that i can’t stop watching it, it’s that i don’t want to.
the drama i can deal with. hell, if i can make it through the last seasons of one tree hill, i can make it through something that doesn’t even really compare. it honestly doesn’t really bother me unless i think of how it must sound so much like a soap if i were to hear it from the other room and not understand anything that’s happening but knowing - hearing - that there is SO much drama. but like? you know, that’s also kind of the appeal. they deal with so much and they never get a break and there’s always SOMETHING to worry about. it makes for good tv.
and a really good flip side - or more like complement - to all the drama is that they still find time to write humor between the girls or talking about little details that normal high schoolers would talk about. the show makes sure that’s even though it’s mostly drama drama drama it also takes breaks even for two minutes to make you laugh and marvel at how close the girls are and uwu
the girls being terrible at guessing thing probably isn’t really fair? i mean, the only reason i was so annoyed with it during the first two seasons is because i knew mona was “a” so i was like??? why are you looking at these people who didn’t even know alison wtf are you doooooing? but not everyone had their last two years of high school basically monopolized by girls who were seriously into pll and in response knew most of the major plot twists of the show esp when mona was revealed. so i’m sure their guessing wasn’t nearly as frustrating to people who had no idea who “a” was either. but the thing is is now that i know how wild goose chase their guessing can be, i’m always pretty skeptical of how they got to their conclusions and if it even makes sense what they’re saying. but, again, the show will usually make their guesses have some grain of truth even if they’re totally off-base so?? idk i just deal with this particular dislike ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
the only thing that can combat bad writing is really good writing and tbh pll has enough of it that even when i roll my eyes at the cheese, or at the 100th aria/ezra drama fest featuring the same exact conflicts, or people being made out to be the bad guys when really they’re not at all - which wouldn’t be bad if they did it one time but they just keep on doing it over and over jeez (toby, paige, toby again, i’m assuming ezra? (but lmao if he is actually the big bad that alison was scared of i’m going to be so hap when he goes down omg), etc), or whatever i’m blah about, i still know that the writing is very strong where i’m concerned which is characterization/relationships.
and pll is fucking SPOT ON when it comes to the girls. (as you can see by my freak out here the way they write the girls is a very, very good reason i’m staying until it’s over). the fact that this show is about four - five by extension - girls is so great, and that they’re characterizations are so strong throughout everything is sO GREAT and the fact that hanna is the most blunt and the most loyal of them all and emily is so strong and angry and determined and spencer is obviously smart but she’s also hilarious and prone to breakdowns and perfect and aria is so comforting and motherly and ugh??? throughout four seasons they’ve been the same??? they’ve gone through conflict, they’ve had their fair share of character growth, they make mistake after mistake, but i can tell you those things about those girls. four years and it hasn’t changed and i’m so SO over the moon about it.
there are so many shows that make conflict and completely change a character to cater to the conflict or to add more conflict/drama but this show?????? they stay the same????????????? what??????????
i also love their friendships i love their friendships i fucking love them. all four of them together or any two of them, the friendships are fucking fantastic and i wouldn’t even be able to write about it if i wanted to and i do want to but i can’t bc i don’t have the words besides perfect
also one thing that i really enjoy about the show is alison. she’s such a mystery. she’s such a mean person, but the girls love her so much and in those flashbacks she always has something about her. and she talked about the four girls all the time to anyone who’d listen like? wtf was that about?? i’m still hoping we get more understanding into why they made a point of having the people who knew just ali tell the four that ali talked about them all the time. like??? there must have been something, she must have genuinely loved them. and idk i always always always want to know more about alison which is a really great compliment to the writers tbh.

Truly a sight to behold, Emily. A talent like yours comes along but once in a generation. Now the real question is do I make and record these noises myself or do you have connections into this industry?
