Segar and originally called Thimble Theatre, and in the Popeye cartoons based upon the strip. Wimpy debuted in the strip in 1931 and was one of the dominant characters in the newspaper strip, but when Popeye was adapted as an animated cartoon series by Fleischer Studios, Wimpy became a minor character; Dave Fleischer said that the character in the Segar strip was "too intellectual" to be used in film cartoons. Have you ever met someone that is just SO INCREDIBLY neurotypical that you almost can't stand them, they aren't blatantly ableist or anything they just talk and joke in a way you can't understand

#whimpy #uh huh sure #this is about my irish teacher #shes not much older than me so we joke around #or at least i try to #but she jokes around with so much sarcasm and sarcasm is very much a grey area for me #especially when its used so often #so its actually really distressing cause i cant tell if ive actually offended her or not #and occasionally she'll say something im doing is and usually im doing it like that because of my injury #and because i cant tell if she's joking I don't know if im allowed to be offended #and the few times when i have tried to defend myself she's said #and then still idk if shes joking and its all just so frustrating and distressing #i haven't brought it up cause first off idk how id explain it or whether she'd think im telling her what to do i get me in trouble #its a whole mess but ill survive #especially after next year when i have the buffer of more people in the class than just two so i won't have to carry the conversation
