Chimney swifts breed in eastern North America and winter in northwestern South America. They are incapable of perching upright and instead cling to vertical surfaces. They roost in groups of hundreds to thousands. In defense, they can clap their wings against their body to make a loud sound, and an entire roost of birds doing this results in a “thundering” sound. Like all swifts, they forage for insects on the wing. They are monogamous and usually mate for life. Unfortunately, they are considered Vulnerable due to the declining insect population.

I love their funny little stubbly tails, and how silly they look clinging to chimney walls! Also they are so evolved towards flight that they can’t drink sitting still- they need to skim water off the surface of lakes while in flight.

This is the only swift I've seen for 25 years of my life and they fill me with such wonderful joy. I love them so much, they're just the most swift, but even if theyre kinda basic I love them. Tiny cigar body, baby wings. I got to save one from a store once which is wild bc most birders I've worked with have never held one. They were Tiny Baby

Plain looking but funky birbs! They’re known for roosting with bats and when a bunch of them huddle together they look like some eldritch feathered growth on the wall

They’re like little bats! What’s not to love???

Found in much of Southeast Asia, whiskered treeswifts prefer tropical or subtropical lowland, montane, or mangrove forests. They build their tiny nests out of feathers on twigs at the tops of high trees. Both sexes participate in incubating the eggs and caring for the single chick.

I drew a whiskered treeswift. They look neat and I think its cool that they make tiny nests and sort of just sit on their baby on the branch.
