I bought some gardening gloves yesterday specifically for digging for bugs. Here are yesterday's dirt friends! (And don't worry, they were put back exactly where they were found afterwards)

I try not to disturb these guys too much but I do occasionally check on them, and they're getting ready to pupate!

I wish I could become a white grub, and leave all my responsibilities behind to dig in the cool, damp flesh of the Earth. I can feel it already. Its loamy embrace bends my setae and aids my digestion through transparent skin. Air floods my spiracles, so humid that they forget the threat of water loss and open fully. Maximum oxygen. Maximum efficiency. I dig sideways through the grassroots jungle until cumulative gravity presses like a weighted blanket and curls me on my side to sleep. I can't wait to wake up and dig more.

Found this beast in a rotten Maple stump, close to 2″ TL.

Large white grub I also dug up, the white grub is an immature Scarab Beetle. Difficult to tell what species of Scarab without a magnifying glass, which I didn’t have on me at the time. I might guess June Beetle because I found a couple burrowed nearby.

Pretty large one so probably nearing pupa stage, exciting!

ugggh thank you @southern4perspective for the grub ID! I'm glad I repotted when I did before these buggers could do more damage! My tomato should be much happier now
