Large white grub I also dug up, the white grub is an immature Scarab Beetle. Difficult to tell what species of Scarab without a magnifying glass, which I didn’t have on me at the time. I might guess June Beetle because I found a couple burrowed nearby.

Pretty large one so probably nearing pupa stage, exciting!

European Ground Beetle I accidentally dug up while doing yard work today. You can see the distinctive divots in its wing castings that helped me intentify it!

Euro Ground Beetle is, you guessed it, native to Europe. They are also common in Canada where I am. They are beneficial to gardens and plants because they are carnivorous and will eat mites and other things that can harm the roots.
