#Repost @theshaderoom with @repostapp ・・・ "Poets #CrystalValentine and #AaliyahJihad performed a poem in 2016's College Unions Poetry Slam Invitaional (CUPSI) called "Hide Your Shea Butter" and if you haven't had the chance to listen, do yourself a favor and check it out..." Now I have NEVER reposted anything from the Shade room before but this... this is something I had to share. #culturalappropriation is real. It runs deep. Y'all try to #whitesplain your way around it but nah... It's not ok when its ghetto on us but "high fashion" on #kimkardashian. We don't need your approval, don't ever think that. Just give credit when credit is due.
my moms boss whitesplained to my family how to make ceviche
I love..
When someone says something like "Those dirty Mexicans and Moose Lambs need to go back where they came from" gets called out for being racist and there's that one dickhead who's like "umm Islam\Mexican isn't a race soo that's not actually racist..." Why thank you Mr. Dictionary... That makes it so much less horrible and offensive. ..hey everyone its cool, this kind person just explained racism, we can go back to what we were doing... Hey, since you're the expert on language and definitions, if I smash your face against my first, that's not actually punching, right?
Whitesplaining in Oregon
I have listened to the same guest #whitesplain why she moved back to OR from Atlanta three times. It gets funnier every time.
Koha
Kia Orrra koutou katoah
Today, I want to talk about an important word. A word that means a lot to me, my husband and our community. Kou-ha. Kou-ha is a form of donation. I like giving kou-ha, it makes me feel better about myself.
When I make kou-ha to those busking in the street, selling sausages and waving small buckets in my face, it is my way of giving back to my people.
Again, it makes me feel better about myself, because I like giving kou-ha.
My husband can’t speak much te ray-o. I don’t know which ee-wee his family are from. I think it’s the one up north. Nutty something-or-rather?
He often gets cast as white too. Is it because of me? It is the language we speak here in ay-oh-taya-rower.
But that’s ok right? As long as we have marry-blood in our kid’s veins and give kou-ha to our people then we are giving back to our community right?
I hope you learned about kou-ha today.
