Okay, so I haven’t caught up with dragon rising yet but I did just finish season 3 and let me just say that I kind of love what the writers appear to be doing with Kai’s character. Heck, all the mental health mini lessons in ninjago dragon rising were also actually a super cool thing for the writers to incorporate—gotta make the kids show educational somehow XD

I adored that side arc in season 1 where Kai draws on his own past experiences to help Wyldefyre adjust to the world beyond the Wyldeness, then there is that scene in season 2 where Nya wishes she could have her big brother to talk through the turmoil that she’s going through from having her greatest fear realized and having to deal with thinking that she would never see him or Jay again (need a separate post to scream about that). Then, there is dragon rising season 3 where he tries to get through to Cole who is in an obvious state of guilt, panic, and fear for his family (agh, I also want to gush about that scene where Cole comforts Fitz and everything he else about his found family in the realm of the lost but for that I’ll ALSO need another post). I really want to joke that Kai may be rising up to become the “Elemental Master of Mental Health” but unfortunately, I watched Monstrosity 🥲

Given that they skipped over his greatest fear scene and let his character model subtly look like he was disturbed in the background of two other scenes following that incident until that trial… I fear the writers are slowly circling back to hurt him once more. 

Welp, sorry Kai… your trauma is going to have to be addressed eventually. (Would it not be absolutely horrible if they eventually end up forcing him back into the realm of monsters for whatever reasons 😭)

Ah, yes, a true classic. I can't wait for Godzilla to join Dorothy on her quest in the hopes that he can ask the wizard to fulfil his true wish: to fight King Kong, Gamera, and Ultraman in the perfect Tokusatsu movie.
