I'm annoyed by how Lonnie is written (Descendants 1-2)

Ok, so Lonnie is a character that had a lot of potential particularly in Descendants 2. But she is really badly written being the daughter of Mulan and Shang. Her interest in swords and shield is understandable but at the same time, she jumps between being tomboy and girly girl which is weird because it was like they couldn't decide which path they wanted her to be in.

Hear me out: I'm not saying you can't be both but we saw nothing in D1 to indicate she wasn't just another girly girl (she likes baking, she cares about how she looks and pays Mal to do her hair) and she's the typical Eastern quiet girl on Family Day whose learnt not to escalate. Like she's sweet to the VKs in general but on Family Day, she chooses to stay silent.

However, in D2 at the beginning we see that in Jane and Lonnie's excitement for Mal to be engaged to be engaged (I know that sentence is confusing, they said it I didn't!) but then she's so bold and no-nonsense when trying to convince Jay and Carlos to let her come help rescue Ben and she's an amazing and skilled sword fighter. Not to mention, the fact that she kept fighting to be in the team in Swords and Shields. Here she doesn't seem like the typical Eastern quiet girl. Apparently according to supplementary materials, her and Ben are childhood friends and she even lightly teased him for being so shy in a royal ceremony (so she's clearly comfortable around him) but honestly this character had so much potential to be more but it's like they could not decide what to do with her.
