I've been in a strange biking at night and wild camping la la land the past 2 days. It turns out biking from 8 pm to 1 am is the secret. Without wind or cars, eternal sunsets set the stage for the zen open road. Two nights ago I camped off of a mountain road next to this beautiful moss covered river ravine. Last night was less picturesque and more imminent with lots of birds (not the peaceful bird chirping but the loud cries of maybe I was near their nests?), but still beautifully free. I've turned the south east corner of the country which means I'm supposedly in the final stretch, but Iceland is much wider than long. People seem to be acknowledging me more lately with lots of thumbs ups, salutes, and even asking if they can take my photo. These interactions are meaningful while I've been pretty off the grid. I feel like I've inadvertently found ways to become increasingly alone out here from mountain roads to roads at night to wild camping, it's easy to go all day without talking to someone. Tonight I'm soaking in some full on civilization in Hofn. There's a library, grocery store, swimming pool, and post office. It appears that people may actually live here. Look out world, here I come. #bikeiceland #outhere #whybikeduringtheday #biketouring #glaciershereicome
