Hello! Can you do Dad Wick with a little baby girl? I feel like he would be an excellent father if he had the chance to.
A/N: thank you for giving me the opportunity to write this🙏
I assume this work was supposed to be mainly just about Wick and his daughter, but I couldn't resist adding reader here especially because I think that if he were to raise a child all by himself, he would have a lot of difficulty coping.
I tried to keep it gn since you didn't specify the reader's gender.
Wick can't lie that the thought of having a child seems wholesome but at the same time it makes him terrified. He has no idea what to do when a baby cries nor how to take proper care of it. He also has too many valuable things around his house that a baby could knock down, break and choke on or get harmed by. He also has so much work and it's hard to balance private life and business.
However, when he finally looked at the newborn, his fears slowly began to subside.
He in fact is a little confused of what to do with the kid at first. He's an overgrown child himself and who in their right mind would let a child take care of another smaller child. But once the paternal instinct gets through to him, he finally begins to get a hold of things.
In the phase when your child is an infant, Wick definitely looks like those typical, always tired mothers. I mean come on, he already stays late with his work and now a baby is crying and yelling for definitely no reason every so often. But he's trying. He's trying to cut his drinking not entirely but at least to an extent where he's sober babysitting. He also takes more breaks from work to watch over the child when you ask him to.
Taking care of a child may be hard, and if you're not the best parent either, you might have trouble keeping up with all this drama, but I'm sure you'll somehow reach some compromises regarding babysitting.
A quick scenario cuz ahhh it's so cute
Wick agreed to let you take the evening off from being a proper parent. To unwind, you went with your friends to a group night out. You were a little worried that leaving Wick alone with your little girl might not be the best idea, but then again, he was an adult, and you had to trust him. And all in all, you didn't regret it; the evening went off without a hitch, and you returned home in a great mood. After opening the door, you heard the sound of a conversation, or rather, a monologue.
-"Oh, I see, you like the colors and the shine, huh? This one belonged to one of the soldiers years ago. It was hard to come by, but if you have enough- hey! no. Don't eat it." That cheerful tone you knew so well suddenly changed to something closer to frustration, or maybe even surrender.
You took a step forward, entering the living room. Your gaze met the sight of your partner sitting in a large, comfortable armchair. Your daughter was sitting on his lap, her paw resting on something shiny in her mouth. She was staring at Wick, who was trying to remove it from her mouth, on the verge of breaking down. When he heard footsteps, he lifted his head and looked your way. He sighed and a weak smile quickly spread across his face.
-"Oh, darling, I'm glad you're back." he said, finally getting something that seemed to be a medal out of your daughter's mouth and placing it on the coffee table next to him. "How was your evening?"
-"Really wonderful. It was nice to see my old friends." You walked over to him and kissed his head, then your daughter's. "I hope she didn't cause you too much trouble while I was gone?" You gave your daughter a teasing look.
-"No, other than him crawling away from me whenever I turned around, pulling on my whiskers, and having inexplicable mood swings. Like I said, nothing major," he said in a mocking tone.
-"That's great. I'm glad you two also had fun." You sneered.
-"Touché." he sighed with a drained expression.
At first taking care of a toddler might seem tiresome but 5 years later you're cooing over "oh how quickly time flies by... She's 5 years old already! Such a big girl!"
He's the type of parent who takes genuine pride in the little accomplishments in their child's life. If he's at a social gathering/party/after-business meeting (you name it), he'll often mention his child's accomplishments, and if she doesn't have any major ones, he'll simply say how cute his little girl is.
I think the way his parents raised him influenced the kind of parent he'll become. At first, he might have been a little worried about being as strict as they were, but he wanted to take a chance (to change haha), and he did. For that reason, I don't think he'd force your child to take up a hobby she clearly dislikes (he doesn't want his daughter to suffer from some lifelong trauma like he did). Although he'd likely encourage her to travel or explore nature while he presented it to her in (what he considers) an interesting way (but let's be honest, his own words and chatter can be quite boring sometimes, especially considering the children's low attention spans so it might not turn out the way he imagined).
Okay, but speaking of parenting, I also want to mention that if Wick raises your child with his love of insects, your daughter probably won't be afraid of them. So if you're the one afraid of insects, bugs, etc., I'm afraid you're kind of doomed. I'm imagining something like this:
You're on some kind of trip. You're sitting peacefully on a picnic blanket in the grass, surrounded by the beautiful landscape of a well-maintained park. In the corner of your eye, you see two familiar silhouettes. You turn to them and raise an eyebrow. A smile, adorned with a hint of uncertainty, spreads across your face.
-"What are you up to?" You grumble at them when you see their wide smiles. The little one is practically stomping with joy and Wick is carrying something in his hands, which form a sort of cage.
-"Look what we've found!!!" She shouts with sparkles in her eyes.
Wick approaches you with a broad smile and raises his hand, which he'd been resting on his other hand. Suddenly, a large, brown insect leaps from beneath it. A shrill scream escapes your throat as the insect lands onto your torso. You quickly start to shake yourself off and look around frantically to see if that monstrous beast is off you yet, while your daughter bursts into loud laughter, and Wick comments:
-"Oh, what a shame, you've already lost Friedreich." -"Frank." your daughter corrects him with a laugh. "Oh, really? I thought we agreed to call him Friedreich. Well, anyway, I don't understand why you don't appreciate this beauty of nature. Do you know how long it took us to catch him?"
So basically you're overpowered by them (TwT)
Wick definitely spoils his little girl. She doesn't lack anything she needs. Besides, Every birthday she has really nice parties thrown and she gets whatever gift she wishes for (as long as it's somewhat reasonable. For example he once refused to buy her a real pony. After all he doesn't have a barn nor people who'd take care of it.)
In my opinion, he lacks a bit of assertiveness, and I think if she asked him nicely and begged for long enough, she could even convince him to put some makeup on him and get him all dolled up.
I also have the impression that he's trying to trick your daughter into loving him even more by doing things like: ↓
You didn't let her eat sweets because she didn't finish her dinner (or something like that, yatta yatta), and then, as soon as you leave the room or go somewhere else, he immediately takes advantage of the situation and sneaks up to take what you didn't let her have, and then secretly gives it to her, first making sure the area is clear - as if they were committing some crime.
-"Shh, just don't tell 'em" he says in a hushed tone, winking at her and handing her what you didn't want to give her.
Although if she deserved to be grounded/banned from something (because I don't know, she was misbehaving or something along those lines) Wick wouldn't try to protest against it and he wouldn't act like a prince in shining armor anymore because unfortunately you have to find a balance between parenting and fun or else your child might get too spoiled and you don't want that.
Even if as a child Wick didn't fully appreciate the way his parents raised him, he has to admit that their parenting methods worked. Therefore, he can't afford to be too lenient towards her either.
Overall I just feel like he's a girl dad. Try to change my mind guys. Depending on how you raise her it's very likely that your girl will be a daddy's girl.
EEEEEE! (≧▽≦) I love him sm. So cute so cute
