Wicked fans are gonna make people absolutely hate wicked in the future because the way you all are so disrespectful to people is absolutely insane.
For one, you all think you’re entitled to sing in a public theater with a bunch of people who just come to watch a movie and enjoy themselves and check out something new
For two you all think that just because the books been out for almost 20 to 30 years and a play has been out for 20 years that people all over the world have seen it and that it’s common knowledge…. Like obnoxious and rude and arrogant do you have to assume that everybody has lived your life and has you lived your experience and cares about what you care about?
Like how dare you spoil a plotline to something that’s not common knowledge. Have some compassion. Have some character have some decorum and restrain yourself!!!
People spend their HARD EARNED CASH and yall wasting THEIR money?!??You all are going to be back to being made fun of , yanno back when people used to make fun of theatre kids. How DARE you! Show some common courtesy! Keep you pitchy singing to yourself! 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Girlfriend wanted to see wicked the movie yesterday so I’ll review it for you. I thought of many negative things to say during the screening, comments that could apply to any modern blockbuster garbage movie. Yet the only thing I feel like saying is Ariana Grande was really good. I’ve never had any kind of opinion on her music at all but seeing her in this, her kind of star power is undeniable. So my review is when Ariana Grande is on screen it’s fun; when she isn’t it’s uninteresting; and you’ll probably get a headache from the camera ceaselessly spinning through a world of cg vomit

Ok, so obviously this is a bit niche-y, cos not all musical theatre fans like Wicked (something I'll never understand...) but I have SUCH A HUGE DEAL WITH SOME FANS OF ELPHABAS (again ranting below a "read more" so anyone who doesn't want to see can skip!"
So earlier today I was listening to Teal Wicks' last Defying Gravity in San Fran and you could hear how ill she was :( very sad, obviously! But there were two comments that seem to exemplify much of the Wicked fandom...
#1: "Who says Idina Menzel has the worst DG?"
#2: [in reply to #1] "Anyone who's heard Willemijn Verkaik sing it"
Now they annoyed me to a RIDICULOUS level, but I decided to moan about it here where I can articulate my argument a bit more...
Obviously if you know me, you'll know that my favourite Elphabas are Rachel Tucker and Nikki Davis-Jones. I also highly rate Louise Dearman, Shoshana Bean, Eden Espinosa, Teal Wicks, Donna Vivino, Felicia Ricci and many more, but THAT'S NOT THE POINT.
My point is that SO MANY fans seem to just be plain rude about who they like. The comments above, for example! It seems to come across in two ways:
1. "oh my god, [this Elphaba] is so bad"
2. "oh my god, why does anyone like [this Elphaba]? Everyone knows [so-and-so OTHER Elphaba] is the best!"
or words to those effects. What's worse is when they're coupled together. Idina and Willemijn seem favourites for this on Youtube, Twitter and Tumblr. I've found it relatively rare to find a video of Idina as Elphaba without someone saying "Willemijn is better that Idina". I HATE IT.
I think I've probably ranted before about how EVERY Elphaba is INCREDIBLE, but I want to say MORE than that... It's so ridiculously rude to ALL Elphaba actresses (no matter WHO you're comparing to WHOM) to say that one is the best. They all worked ridiculously hard and put in so much passion that to poo-poo it away because you happen to like one a bit more is worse than rude and childish.
Now obviously I'm an Idina fanboy (look at my url, after all!) but even so, when you listen to the OST, the pre-Broadway soundboards, watch the videos etc. it's blindingly obvious just how much the character of Elphaba is STILL Idina's work. If you can't respect her for that, what kind of fan are you?
Willemijn is obviously phenomenal. To perform such a huge role in THREE languages for over FOUR YEARS is enormous! Personally, I don't see her appeal beyond that of any other Elphaba, but that's just me. I didn't see Rachel's appeal until I saw her live after all, so we can leave it there, I think.
Now I ADORE Rachel and Nikki's Elphabas and them as people at least equally. I've been lucky enough to be able to get to know them as people reasonably well by being at the Stage Door so much and I've witnessed Rachel's discomfort at being called "better than Idina" first hand. I can say with absolute confidence that they just want to play this amazing role and hope people enjoy themselves watching them while they did so. They don't want to be "the best" and are uncomfortable when someone says that - they just want to do their job.
Having a FAVOURITE is completely different. FAVOURITE implies taste, BEST implies quality. To say that Idina's Elphaba is "the worst" implies that the "best" must have disregarded her work and built Elphie anew. That's obviously a pile of horse crap. Equally to say "Idina originated it, so she must be the best" is also stupidly short-sighted.
I'm probably just waffling by now, but the take home messages are: #1: "NEVER say "better" or "best" about an Elphaba, use "I prefer" or "my favourite(s)" or else I will either rant at you til your head falls off or just plain hurt you.
#2: DON'T BE RUDE!!
#3: Just be nice. Remember what the show teaches and don't give us all a bad name!
STOP with all the comparisons between Elphabas! Just appreciate them for their own individual performances.
IF THEY'RE AN ELPHABA, THEY'RE INCREDIBLE, OK?
There's no such thing as "the best Elphaba" and if there is, there's as much of a chance it IS Idina - who I WORSHIP - or Willemijn as it is anyone else (just to name two whose fans REALLY piss me off).
The amount of youtube comments I see like "If you've seen so-and-so's performance of this song, you'll know whoever-this-is-a-video-of isn't as good" pisses me off to the extreme! Whenever someone says "the best" it's a PERSONAL OPINION, neither side should go parading round like it's fact!
EXACTLY the same goes for Glindas, too! If you don't like an aspect of their performance, that's personal opinion. Just appreciate their god-damn performances and don't bad-mouth someone whose fan has taken the time and effort to record, split and upload any part of the show!
