Finished Skin!

I've been busy working on this bad boy for a long time. Most of the site was finished ages ago, but I've redone a chunk of it so it's cleaner and meaner since. And I absolutely love it! I've been using the skin for a couple of months, but this week we finally revealed it to all the members. The gang wanted to keep to the same vibe and aesthetic of the old skin that's been in place since 2020, but to update it with some quality of life changes and responsive design. And I LOVE the result!

Some of the updates on wightwold.net include:

full responsiveness so that the site is just as usable on mobile as PC

light/dark mode and font-size options for everyone

a personal notepad for members to save snippets of code or posts

a post saver on the posting page for folks that like to fly by the seat of their pants

a full set of BBCodes so folks can build their own templates and make things look pretty as they please

new buttons on the post page to drop those codes straight into the post

special BBCode templates that only show in the Battle Forums

discord tagging from the post page on site (thank you Sadri!! i honestly don't know how to live without this any more)

automatic thread trackers on the profiles (another one i need in order to survive these days; thank you Fizzy!)

automatic age tracker on the profiles (so we no longer have to remember to update. turns out one of my characters was two years older than I thought...)

automatic face claims

sortable memberlist so there's no longer a debate over who's the tallest character

and loads more like the interactive map drawn by the talented Wynter

And finally (for now) showing off one of my favourite parts of the site, our interactive map that has (most) of our canon locations and member created ones. That I think looks amazing on both large screen and mobile! Super proud of this one.

Isn't it beautiful? Wynter did such an amazing job on the art and Juda was fantastic in adding everyone's locations!

In what situation was your character the most afraid they’ve ever been? Both have lived lives where fear was a constant companion, but they both dealt with it by responding to the situation at hand. For Lenore, it was when she realized that her work as a Phylacter was finally catching up with her, and her body was going to fail, and there was nothing she could do about it. For Nuriel, it was when he was twelve, and his mother went out to find work one day, and did not return that night. Or the next, or the next, and he couldn't find her, or know what happened to her.

Impossible question for Lenore: What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before?

Lenore holds everyone to a high standard, more so for those she's close to. Including herself. The positive side to this is that she is also willing to assume that others will behave as she expects them to. The downside is that she has a tendency toward overwork, and losing herself in her work.

Prior to Byron, her longest term relationship was platonic, as other lovers were not interested in anything longer term, or not willing to compete with Lenore's work ethic and itinerant lifestyle.

Coming soon to Jcink Premium

Wightwold is an original dark fantasy set in an isolated country called Foundermeer, where eldritch monsters emerge after dark to prey on anyone careless enough not to shutter their windows and lock their doors by sundown. Our plot focuses on Ginterghasts, Witcher-like hunters whose unnatural abilities allow them slay monsters and bind them as familiars. These strange outcasts travel a landscape inspired by European folklore, with a haunted, autumnal atmosphere reminiscent of Grimm’s fairytales and the Witcher games.

We’re hoping to open in mid to late September; in the meantime, please feel free to shoot us an ask or join us on Discord!

Ginterghast classes

In our earlier post introducing Ginterghasts, we mentioned that they fall into two different classes based on their preferred fighting tactics. Here’s a more detailed overview of each class:

Vespertine

Vespertines are Ginterghasts who fight using physical weaponry, ranging from scarred, hulking broadsword-wielders, to nimble rapier fighters, to dauntless gunslingers who take down their opponents from afar with ornate, old-fashioned crossbows and pistols. They are better liked and regarded as more heroic than phylacters; not only do they battle using methods the public can understand, they tend to have more charismatic personas than their often sickly and secretive peers. Charlotte Ginterghast, the first vespertine, is viewed as a savior by the Foundermeerish people. Most Ginterghasts become vespertines, since doing so does not require an education in the alchemical arts.

Phylacter

Unlike vespertines, who are able to launch into battle at a moment’s notice, phylacters must carefully brew their elixirs before each fight. Prepared, they are a terrifying sight to behold on the battlefield; caught unaware, they are nearly helpless. The strange, volatile compounds they unleash upon their enemies and consume to enhance their own abilities take a terrible toll on their health, leaving them drawn, shaking, and vulnerable to attack after extended use. Though phylacters are not innately more sinister than vespertines, Aldous Ginterghast’s dark legacy has irreparably tainted their image, and they are often received with mistrust. Most phylacters had prior experience with alchemy before becoming wight-marked.
