green like life

Honestly, I love it when characters relapse. When someone whoâs gotten over their anger issues falls into a situation so out of their depth they fall back on their old habits. When someone whoâs learned to open up becomes a recluse again in order to cope with something outside their control.
Thereâs just something so horrible, so toxic, about watching a character grow and then slip back into their old selves in order to cope, bc you know they still care, that theyâre the same inside, but watching them hurt so hard they donât know what else to do brings a sense of catharsis.

My taste in romance has less to do with how romantic the relationship actually is (though that is a bonus) and more to do with how interesting I find the dynamic between the couple. Which is why fluffy vanilla romance usually bores the hell out of me. I want to see how these characters dramatically affect each other and fundamentally change each other and their individual understandings of the world!!! I want to see a beautiful tie-in between the romance and the themes + messages of the story and how it all builds to a climax!!!

I really like fictional couples that actually enjoy spending time with each other. It seems like such a simple, mundane thing. But, often, I see fictional couples who are completely enamored and dramatic and willing to die for each other, which is fine. But like⊠do they enjoy hanging out? Do they have private jokes and would they be friends even if they werenât in love? It feels like such a basic thing, but itâs something that I actually donât see that often. And it feels so refreshing and honest compared to these over-dramatic romeo and juliet-esque romances. Just two people who become good friends and because they enjoy each otherâs presence so much it grows into a strong attraction. It feels more real and tangible than two attractive people meeting and âfalling in love at first sightâ - like, of course, you fell in love at first sight! Youâre both supermodels! Sorry, canât relate.

i donât want characters with healthy coping mechanisms, actually. i want them to yearn and weep and suffer and have their brutal worldviews informed and/ or altered exclusively by their unyielding love for like. one other person. sorry
*kisses you while you're in the middle of infodumping* Sorry, you're just being really sexy right now. Continue.
