I find it really interesting how ffxiv keeps equating love to snow, cold to the point where it bites your skin at the touch but at the same time bautiful, sparkeling and soft, and to ice, ancient and unbreakable and yet so very fragile that it might shatter at just the slighterst bit of a wrong touch.
We've seen it in Shiva who, originally, secrificed herself out lof love for Hresvelgr and for the chance that her and his people might live in peace.
Then later we saw it again in Ysayle who did more or less the same thing out of her believe in a chance of peace.
Then again in Ryne who was willing to undertake what might aswell have caused a nother flood of light on the first shard, purely out of love for her home, the people and for Gaia, to bring back life to the barren wastelend that was corrupted by the flood of light.
Hydaelyn isn't directly ice but I couldn't help but notice how, where as light is usually colour coded to be yellow-ish golden (as seen in the sineaters, lightwardens and Rynes other form during the eden fights where she is basicly a baby-hydaelyn) she in her own fight is colourd blue-platinum ish, making her appear more icey than I personally had expected. The weapons that you get from her too look more like ice than the golden colour of light-aligned crystalized aether we're familiar with.
And now we also got Menphina, the literal maiden goddess of love and the moon, in all her icy glory.
They took the element that ususally symbolizes the absence of love, an ice cold heart, and turned it into something that means power, dedication and the willingness to fight, to make sacrifices for the thing one truly loves.
In ffxiv, having a frozen heart doesn't mean that you have no love to give, it means that it's overflowing your very being to the point where it literally encases you, allowing you to wield it as armor and weapon to fight for the cause you believe in.
