Day 2: How did you find the whump community?

Are you an old-school whumper from the livejournal days who migrated to tumblr after strikethrough? Did you find whump two weeks ago via pinterest prompts? Tell us the story of how you found this community, when you decided to make an account, and what convinced you to stay!

Whumpmas In July Day 2!

“How did you find the whump community?”

I’ve always been fond of dark and trecherous tropes in media. Sometime before quarentine started, I just randomly searched for captivity fics on tumblr and low and behold @ashintheairlikesnow ‘s Kauri fic popped up. I was utterly amazed by Ash’s writing style, not to mention that there was an entire community built around the same tropes that I loved. So I binge read ever installment, then Chris’s story, and i fell head over heels for Jake, and began to branch out a little bit to other creators. The BBU was a great way to find new creators because they were within the same bubble of tropes that gave that seratonin to my brain. I started reading @deluxewhump ‘s frathouse series. I am still a Cam and Alex simp, the collar and lingerie anon.

Some other great writers that I highly recommend looking into and reading are

@thoughtsonhurtandcomfort for wonderful nonhuman whumpees, absolutely love the g/t stuff they have

@albino-whumpee I am in love with the demon and angel series, and just Albus in general.

@orchidscript Henry has stolen my whole heart, and his time with Alexander and Marina is horrible but I cant help but reread.

@whump-mania every prompt they post blows me away and gives me so many whumperflies

@knivestothroats fletcher ALSO owns my whole heart, not gonna lie I read in the woods when I was realizing I’m nonbinary and I blame them.

@thecitythatdoesntsleep each vampire prompt they release is so so good, oh my god I love vampire whump.

Whumpmas in July - Day 2

Day 2: How did you find the whump community?

See, funny this is I can’t really remember!

I’m really only left to assume I was looking at writing prompts and stumbled upon a link to Tumblr and a page with whumpy writing prompts, most like @whumpster-dumpster.

It took me a long time to finally make an account as I’m sure many of you already know. Besides lurking on @milk-carton-whump‘s blog as an anon for about two months (?), I also read the entirety of this site’s privacy policies and terms and conditions, which I’m told no one in the history of ever really does. But finally, on April 10, I was here!

What made me stay? The whump for sure, but also the amazing friendships I’d made! My lovely mutuals know who they are. <3 But yeah! This is definitely one of the nicest communities I’ve ever seen on the internet, holy cow, and seeing that I’m here to stay, I’m excited to make even more friends with my fellow whumpers in the future! :D

How did I find the community? I honestly have no idea. Probably was looking for whump without knowing it was whump and then finding some post that was tagged as whump and then falling into this rabbit hole back in 2019. Then I found out about whumptober 2019 and wrote daydremed some stuff on my own and got that sweet happy feeling thing.

The reason I stayed was actually when I found some amazing people like. @straight-to-the-pain, @redwingedwhump, @whumping-every-day, and @whumpster-dumpster

I really like their content but never really interact with most of them because I'm surprisingly shy when it comes to people. (Especially when I look up to them)

Whumpmas in July: Day 2

Day 2: How did you find the whump community here on tumblr?

Through fanfiction! Writing whumpy stuff has always been what I loved, although I didn’t know it was called that. When working through a monthlong writing challenge in the Darker Shades of Magic fandom in 2019, one prompt was “whump”. I had to ask @pinkcupboardwitch what that even meant, only to more or less discover there was a word for the kind of writing I liked best.

At that point, I started scrolling the tag, decided to participate in @whumptober2021​ that year, and adapted a fanfic story I’d written to feature original characters instead, which is where Danny got his beginning! 

Scrolling through the whump tag, I started to follow writers I found posting these incredible stories here on tumblr, and yeah. So. 

Basically, I stumbled headfirst into the whump community by accident, then built myself a little cabin, so to speak. And here I stay.

How did you find the whump community here on tumblr?

I first discovered the term "whump" through the Archive of our Own tagging system, when I found VLD Keith whump fanfic by @arwenride , @justheretobreakthings & @rangergirl3

From there I created my own pseudonym for Ao3, and this Tumblr blog shortly followed - as did my discovery of the whump community here on Tumblr!

How did you find the whump community?

I stumbled into it and then people began to find me.

I liked the idea of people shipped out in a box to someone really really bad for them and actually wrote something about it during the time I spent in buses, waiting for appointments, skipping classes, etc. It evolved and such but never had the guts to publish it due a very distressing experience within a discord server for showing some of my whumpy art. That I did apologize for making and posting without the proper warnings. And so, circa December of 2019, because of someone reblogging a fic, I found out about the bbu and basically got swallowed into it since then.

Most of the time I was just posting because it was fun to write about a concept I had secretly enjoyed for a long time but never seemed to find people who also liked it, so I often think I didn’t find the community but you found me. It sounds cheesy but I almost expected nobody to read my things and finding such a warm welcome was beyond my expectations.

Thank you so much! It really means a lot to me that people have found joy in engaging with my content.

WIJ Day Two: How did you find the whump community? @whumpmasinjuly

I was on Tumblr for the first time in ages and trying to look for prompts to write for. I spent absolutely forever scrolling through angst prompt blogs and on angst prompt generators but none of them were what I wanted. I didn’t really know what I wanted, but it wasn’t angst apparently. Eventually, I found something closer to what I wanted and it was also cross-tagged with #whump, so I typed that into the search bar and it was exactly what I was looking for.
